Job Summary

Responsible for the accounting functions related to the company's title and escrow operations. Will perform a wide range of duties related to the operating and escrow accounts of the title operations and provide support to the company's branch offices and escrow operations. Manage accounting processes and procedures according to ALTA's Best Practices. Assist settlement closers in the day to day function of escrow checks and wire transfers. Act as a liaison between the title agency and our title underwriters to submit monthly account reconciliations and annual account audits.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the accounting activities and operations of the escrow accounting department.
  • Account for all financial activity of the business according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Perform monthly escrow account reconciliations including trial balances, bank statements and outstanding check reports.
  • Partner with settlement branches to facilitate payments via check, wire and ACH
  • Process vendor accounts payable and collect on any open accounts receivable as needed
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls throughout the business, including positive pay for company bank accounts
  • Annual 1099 reporting
  • Oversee escrow account unclaimed property/escheatment reporting.
  • Monitor and audit financial and operational reporting of the business to ensure accurate record-keeping

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong escrow accounting skills required; highly detail oriented
  • Knowledge of title company operating systems such as Qualia, Ramquest or Softpro
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Quickbooks, Netsuite, Sage, etc
  • Experience processing banking transactions and accessing bank statements online
  • Strong problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication skills.

Range of Experience

  • 3+ years of directly related experience
  • Title escrow accounting experience preferable
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
