We are currently looking for a Co-Located Domestic Violence Advocate to provide advocacy-based counseling services to survivors of intimate partner abuse. The Advocate will be co-located at SafeHouse Denver’s Counseling & Advocacy Center and the Rose Andom Center. The Advocate will carry a caseload of counseling clients and must be able to respond timely and appropriately to a diverse range of survivors healing from trauma.

What You’ll Be Doing:
1) Provide advocacy-based domestic violence counseling at the SafeHouse Denver administrative building as well as the Rose Andom Center.
• Conduct initial intake and safety assessments.
• Provide emotional support utilizing various counseling techniques.
• Provide psychoeducation on the dynamics of domestic violence and trauma.
• Assist clients in identifying options and achieving goals.
• Plan and facilitate psychoeducational, prevention and/or support groups.

2) Respond to callers who access the SafeHouse crisis line via telephone.
• Conduct crisis intervention and safety planning.
• Provide information, education, and emotional support.

3) Participate in all required staff and supervision meetings

4) Demonstrate initiative and vision for service quality improvement and problem prevention and resolution.
• Work diligently to achieve individual, team, and agency goals and objectives.
• Network with other service providers and community agencies to assist clients and the agency.

5) Respond to domestic violence survivors who access the Rose Andom Center seeking immediate support services (daily walk-in hours at this location)
• Conduct crisis intervention and assess immediate needs.
• Complete safety plan.
• Make recommendations and support survivors in identifying options and make viable connections with diverse community resources.
• Conduct initial screening and assessment for ongoing services through SafeHouse Denver.

6) Collaborate with SafeHouse Denver and Rose Andom Center staff and other stakeholders.
• Assist as needed with the ongoing training and support of new staff.
• Work collaboratively and consistently with all entities within the Rose Andom Center, including law enforcement, other government agencies as well as community-based providers to enhance survivor outcomes.

7) Maintain accurate and timely record keeping.
• Responsible for appropriate charting and all necessary documentation.
• Complete required and time sensitive data collection and entry.

8) All other duties as assigned.

Do You Have What It Takes?

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; superior time management and organizational skills
  • Attentive, responsive, and proactive; ability to pivot as necessary to meet the needs of survivors
  • Detail oriented with strong technical aptitude; advanced proficiency in utilizing MS Office
  • Passion for the SafeHouse Denver mission
  • Strong working knowledge of domestic violence and empowerment models; crisis intervention and advocacy skills
  • Able to travel to and work from two different Denver locations.
Preferred:
  • 2 years of experience working in a counseling setting.
  • Bilingual Spanish
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • A solid understanding of how people and organizations change and the ability to be adaptable.
