What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 30 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $25.57 - $38.36/ hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location

This victim advocate will work Saturdays and Sundays in our in-custody arraignment courtroom with a workday that begins at 6:00 a.m. each day.

In this position you can expect to work on site at Wellington Webb Municipal Building, 201 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80202.

The Denver City Attorney’s Office is one of the largest law firms in Colorado, with over 240 attorneys and staff members comprised of paralegals, victim advocates, and other support and supervisory staff members. It may have the most diverse practice of any law firm in Colorado since Denver is a home rule city and county. Clients include the Mayor, City Council, all other elected and appointed officials, all city agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and employees.

The City and County of Denver, City Attorney's Office, Prosecution and Code Enforcement (PACE) is seeking an part-time Victim Advocate to join our team. This victim advocate will work with victims of municipal crimes and be responsible for providing victims of all ages with the support, referrals, and resources they need during all stages of the criminal justice process.

This part-time Victim Advocate will work with victims on in-custody cases (typically assaults, domestic violence, and family violence cases).This victim advocate will screen cases, conduct risk and lethality assessments, and contact victims to provide safety planning, an explanation of the criminal justice system – both municipal and state, provide community referrals, provide emergency resources (housing, food, transportation, child care), and help with restitution and Victims Compensation funds.This is a grant-funded contract position and does not offer benefits.

Specifically, as the part-time PACE Victim Advocate of City Attorney’s Office, you will: 

Lead with integrity, compassion, commitment, and works together with the community : As a Victim Advocate candidate will work with the community to improve the quality of life in Denver. In PACE, a victim advocate. Assess victim needs, make referrals and collaborate with community service organizations. Coordinate appearance of victim and/or witnesses with courtroom schedule and availability of prosecution team.

Respond to crisis calls, provides information on the criminal justice process: The Victim Advocate candidate will accompany victims to court, assists with obtaining protection orders, answers questions about court cases, offers safety planning, provides referrals to community resources, and staffs cases with the prosecutorial team.

Attend Meetings: The victim advocate may also attend meetings with collaborative partners and represent the City Attorney's Office in such meetings. Maintain contact with victims to keep them updated on case status, and assists victim with such things as translator services, therapy referral, transportation arrangements to and from court, protective orders, emergency funds, and temporary housing/shelter programs.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

Ability to work Saturday – Sunday, maximum of 14 hours per week

At least two (2) years of paid or volunteer human services experience providing casework, case management or trauma services to the victims of violent or non-violent crimes. This position requires handling emergency or crisis situations, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and computer use. The position is subject to varying and unpredictable situation, is subject to many interruptions such as multiple calls and inquiries

Interpersonal communication, writing, public speaking, customer service, teamwork, stress tolerance, personal accountability, behavioral boundaries, problem solving, and attention to detail

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field

Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of paid or volunteer human services experience providing casework, case management or trauma services to the victims of violent or non-violent crimes

Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education
