Since our inception more than 20 years ago, we have been developing a proprietary biological drug device combination technology for treatment of a variety of retinal disorders. Our most advanced program is developing a treatment for the orphan disease Macular Telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel). Our Encapsulated Cell Technology (ECT) platform is designed to deliver a genetically modified neuroprotective factor to slow the progression of this chronic retinal disease.

We are seeking a US Director of Sales training, Ophthalmology who will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and execution of field force training. Key responsibilities include developing training curriculum and training content for field-based employees in the following areas: product/technical knowledge, product use best practices, selling skills, ophthalmology/retinal disease, and surgical support. Additionally, this role will continuously analyze the training needs of field teams post-launch, as well as project management, execution of programs, development of new program design and support for training resources. The Director will also work with the marketing team to incorporate marketing strategies into the training curriculum.

This is an on-site role in Needham, MA. This is not a hybrid or remote opportunity.

Job Requirements

  • Design and develop all sales training programs (technical, as well as, soft skills) to include findings from a comprehensive organizational needs analysis ongoing with our training partner.
  • Submit and manage the training budget.
  • Plan, organize, and support sales training meetings and Plan of Action (POA) meetings.
  • Develop full orientation program for new field employees to complement functional onboarding.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate a “Train-the-Trainer” program for field trainers.
  • Develop Product Modules and training delivery system.
  • Develop accredited training programs for clinical use.
  • Measure effectiveness of Sales training programs and report up to leadership as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in biotechnology/ pharmaceuticals with at least 2 years of experience in Training and Development or Learning, Performance Development or Design experience.
  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing allocation of resources.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design, including launch experience within retinal disease areas and ophthalmic surgery experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability building high-performing teams.
  • Experience developing or overseeing the development of training curriculum in biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of learning technology solutions / LMS systems.
  • Experience developing or overseeing surgical training programs for sales forces.
  • Collaborative work style with ability to solicit input, influence and support decision making with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing vendors working across multiple workstreams.
