Summary of the Position:


Reporting to the Director of Shelter Services, this position will be responsible for the delivery of compassionate, high-quality case management services to assigned families within the FamilyAid Community Base Shelter portfolio. The Supervisor will ensure a team of Case Managers work with families using a two-generation (2Gen) and trauma-informed care approach to develop and implement plans that assist families' transition from shelter to permanent housing. The plans will meet policies, guidelines, and timelines established by the program and Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC).

Additionally, The Supervisors will lead the case managers in ensuring that families have access to support and supplies for daily living needs and are connected to 2Gen supports to be best positioned to secure and maintain housing stability and to interrupt multigenerational poverty.

This position requires effective management and oversight of the Case Managers’ creation and maintenance of documentation and data to meet EOHLC, FamilyAid and program policies.


Duties and Responsibilities:


The role is responsible for managing hiring, supervising, and supporting case managers, while working collaboratively with the Director and other program leadership to ensure that agency, state, and program policies and practices are trauma-informed and effectively serve current and formerly homeless parents and their children. Specific job duties include:

  • Always exhibit and model strong core ethics, integrity, and accountability consistent with FamilyAid's mission, vision, and values
  • Align and lead self and staff towards achievement of FamilyAid’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and annual operational and financial plans
  • Ensures that Case Manager supervisees are trained in, apply, and always work within trauma informed care principles
  • Oversees and ensures success of Case Manager team members in assessment of families' strengths and needs and development of service plans to best meet the housing goals defined by the families, staff, and EOHLC
  • Oversees and ensures success of the work of Case Manager supervisees in partnership with Housing Placement colleagues to execute on plan within the nine-month EOHLC shelter limit protocols
  • Oversees and ensures success of Case Manager supervises in providing ongoing case management to achieve eventual stability in permanent housing adapting services to best meet evolving needs of each family
  • Lead staff in efforts to address and reduce two-generation homelessness. Lead team in development partnerships with 2Gen colleagues to refer and support family members’ engagement with external services as appropriate
  • Ensures Case Managers conduct successful intakes for newly arriving families at FamilyAid shelter programs as needed
  • Consistent manages team member to maintain complete and appropriate documentation pursuant to FamilyAid and EOHLC guidelines including but not limited to Clarity, ETO, Case Management Service plans, Family Stability Evaluation (FSE), and any other assigned documentation
  • Oversee the consistent delivery of high-quality services to families living in a community-based shelter setting as well as to families who have recently transitioned from shelter to permanent housing, with the goal of long-term housing stability and retention
  • Provide programmatic supervision of case management staff
  • Develop and maintain a network of local resources to support families in shelter and permanent housing
  • Introduce and oversee new family and child-focused programming at the co-shelter sites
  • Provide family interventions to identify and assist with problem-solving, crisis intervention, and other needs
  • Respond to crises and follow agency, state, and city protocols related to incident reporting and child safety
  • Maintain a consistent and regular presence at assigned sites; remain accessible to program participants and staff
  • Carry a direct service caseload of families as needed
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with property management and their staff who maintain the assigned shelter sites
  • Serve as a liaison between property management and FamilyAid on matters related to program operations, client services, and compliance with Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC)
  • Coordinate with property management and 24/7 staff to respond to client-related matters including but not limited to serious incidents, resources and events, program supplies, unit or building maintenance
  • Oversee transition of families in and out of assigned shelter sites. Coordinate these transitions with property management to ensure move-ins, move-outs, and unit turnovers are as seamless as possible
  • Manage accurate and up-to-date assigned shelter sites bed registry
  • Coordinate with partners, including contacts in the placement contracts and field operations departments, regarding serious incidents, ADA requests, transfers, changes in household composition, and other client-specific situations as needed
  • Assign and manage staff workloads
  • Manage internal and external funds and resources
  • Serve as covering program supervisor in office at least one evening per week (as applicable)
  • Participate in a leadership role in all staff, team, and clinical meetings
  • Identify internal and external expectations and exceed them
  • Work in a manner that is diplomatic, inclusive, transparent, communicative, open, and fair
  • Serve as a reliable and upbeat colleague in collaborative efforts to achieve the agency’s annual goals and objectives
  • Hire and train case management staff
  • Evaluate the performance of direct reports on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure that supervisees maintain accurate written records and documentation in accordance with program standards
  • Ensure that supervisees fully collect and enter HMIS records in compliance with state regulations and agency requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client files and information
  • Maintain clear, non-judgmental documentation in family files
  • Work with colleagues, program, and organization leadership to ensure that guests across programs receive services consistent with agency and state standards, protocols, and directives, and that staff are trained accordingly
  • Work with colleagues and families to ensure housing attainment and retention to meet program goals
  • Collaborate with external organizations such as the Department of Children and Families, health providers, schools, and police departments to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our programs
  • Represent FamilyAid in a professional manner and reflective of FamilyAid’s values at various trainings and community meetings
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director, CBS, Vice President of Programs, Chief Operating Officer, President.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, MSW degree and LICSW preferred
  • Supervisory experience in a social services organization is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of professional experience working in a social service setting
  • Experience working with property management staff preferred
  • Ability to work in office and field-based settings with a diverse homeless population
  • Flexibility and compassion essential

  • Experience working within a Trauma Informed Care environment strongly preferred

Work Schedule and Conditions: Full-time, exempt role. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00 pm with flexibility to work beyond those hours to best meet client and program needs. Some evening availability may be required. While this position is classified as Hybrid, a significant presence will be required at FamilyAid’s main (office is located at 3815 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02130) or at Shelter locations this position will support.
