Boulder Imaging is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who has a strong background in bringing new products into manufacturing and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of existing manufacturing processes. The candidate must possess high initiative and collaboration in ensuring that production targets are met. This candidate will work closely with cross-functional team members to drive manufacturing introduction and process improvements for complex electro-mechanical optical systems in a low to medium volume production environment.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities
- Work with design engineers to evaluate and improve designs for both assembly and service.
- Establish design guidelines for preferred assembly methods and system layout.
- Work with engineering staff to define key inspection points for components and final assemblies.
- Develop assembly documentation such as exploded drawings, assembly instructions and inspection checklists.
- Provide training on assembly documents and best practices for manufacturing.
- Assist in the creation of service documents for proper field part replacement.
- Design and build assembly fixtures as needed, including automated calibration systems.
- Develop preferred manufacturing flow for low to mid volume assemblies.
- Work with vendors to ensure proper manufacturing of components or assemblies.
- Work with engineering team members for successful production launch.
- Work to resolve issues with assemblies or components on the manufacturing floor.
- Work with production team to establish schedules and manufacturing routing.
- Conduct Process Map and Value Stream mapping and use these for measuring, monitoring, and improving manufacturing processes.
- Support the production team as first point of technical escalation for manufacturing issues.
- Support first article inspection/qualifications.
- Support vendor qualification and scoring (support supply chain and procurement colleagues).
- Perform CAR/SCARS/PDV.
- Lead SOP/WI improvement.
- Ability to read schematics and single-line diagrams.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience trouble shooting electro-mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods.
- Experience with Design for Assembly/Design for Service analysis for systems.
- Ability to develop and implement assembly documentation.
- Previously led continuous improvement for assembly processes and manufacturing testing to drive improved throughput of systems.
- Experience working in an ISO manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in design of fixturing for system level assemblies.
- 3D CAD experience, SolidWorks preferred.
- Experience with FMEA/PFMEA a plus.
- Experience working with a mill and power tools a plus.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Five years of experience in manufacturing process development with preference for specific experience in the assembly of customized electro-mechanical systems.
