Outpatient Registered Nurse

Facility Overview:
At Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility, we are committed to serving as a community resource, providing the highest quality of mental health services. Currently, Ocean View operates as an adult 39-bed voluntary acute in-patient facility, offering private rooms and individualized care through a multi-disciplinary approach focusing on compassionate care and best practices. We also provide Intensive Outpatient and Partial hospitalization services to ensure a continuum of care after acute stabilization. We are currently in the process of expanding our Long Beach facility to 80 beds, offering a locked facility setting for those who meet intensive mental health criteria. Additionally, our expansion plans to other areas are progressing rapidly, and we anticipate that our Colton Location in San Bernadino County, will be operational by Spring of 2024.
Outpatient Registered Nurse Position Overview:
The PHP Nurse coordinates comprehensive nursing care activities and provides direct nursing care to all patients in the Program. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, patient’s care activities, and evaluates the patient’s response to treatment. The Registered Nurse assumes leadership responsibilities for the programs nursing issues and performs within the standards of professional practice, hospital policies and procedures, and departmental policies and procedures. Provides professional and technical skills to ensure safety, comfort, personal hygiene and the protection of the patient population. Reports to the Director of Outpatient Services.
This position supports the Mission of the Hospital through the provision of distinctive and compassionate care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
PATIENT CARE AND PLANNING
• Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery and coordination of patient care.
• Plans, implements, and coordinates nursing care activities for all patients and sets guidelines for accurate reporting and recording of patient’s symptoms, reactions, and progress.
• Assesses the patient on admission and formulates a plan of care derived from a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment.
• Develops comprehensive nursing care plans, which take the patient’s total needs into account, utilizes assessment data and integrates the medical care plan.
• Participates in multidisciplinary treatment staffing. Participates in the development of treatment plans.
• Performs treatment interventions requiring a physician’s order and registered nurse’s licensure for administration. (i.e., pharmacy orders, medication administration, medical treatments).
• Accepts and transcribes verbal and written physician orders and incorporates them into the treatment plan.
• Interprets the nursing and treatment needs of the patient to non-professional staff members assigned to the patient.
• Participates in individual, group, and family therapies and educational seminars as appropriate.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interacts with family members and visitors with the intent to promote mental health concepts.
• Consistently provides timely and accurate information to patients, family, and coworkers to achieve the highest possible level of satisfaction.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participates in client Hospital-wide quality improvement program.
• Participates in the Referral Development process.
• Other related tasks, as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age service in the Programs. Able to work under stressful situations. Possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language.
Education & Licensure:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with at least an associate degree/diploma in Nursing. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year experience in psychiatric setting plus one year as a Team Lead in psychiatric/mental health field.
Licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in the state of California. Knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychological disorders.
Current BLS Certification
Current MAB certificate.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged, extensive, walking/standing. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Hand manipulation, both fine and gross dexterity are required for writing and technical skills.
