The Outpatient Mental Health Nurse Manager (Multiple Specialties) is responsible for the management of nursing staff in the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Seriously Mental Illness Primary Care (SMI/PC), and Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Programs. Additional programs may be added based on other programmatic/nursing leadership needs. The Nurse Manager (NM) is designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operations of their assigned MH programs and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The Nurse Manager (NM) is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, clinician, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. The NM influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promote a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
The incumbent assists with the development of policies and procedures and contributes to the community of practice across the Veterans Health Administration through the use of a data-driven quality improvement approach to case management practice with established goals and outcomes to evaluate and document case management effectiveness.
The incumbent identifies and monitors mental health and nursing metrics in collaboration with mental health admin and prepares program and performance metric reports for MH leadership on a monthly and/or quarterly basis.
Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age specific components.
Assumes responsibility for the coordination of Veteran-centered care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
