Align Treatment Center is an Adolescent Eating Disorder Residential Program that partners Clinicians and Caregivers in the battle against eating disorders. We are committed to utilizing Evidence Based Treatments to effectively build motivation and coping skills for patients, while empowering caregivers with the psychoeducation, tools and support necessary to be more prepared to help their child when they return home. Our mission is to provide superior mental health services and serve as the model for creating an adolescent residential treatment center that unites patients, families, staff, PHP/IOP programs and the community as a whole to join together and help those struggling with eating disorders.

Position Summary

A Milieu Therapist assists and supports patients through the entire treatment experience, from admission through discharge, and is responsible for contributing insightful, practical and meaningful information to support the patient’s behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supporting patients when distressed with validation and unconditional positive regard and coaching them to utilize skills.
  • Understanding and maintaining the confidential nature of all patient related activities
  • Attending all training, education and staff enrichment activities; being familiar with the philosophy, mission and objectives of Align Treatment Center
  • Contributing to the well-being of all, serving as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate and positive behavior in a professional, warm and caring manner
  • Sharing vital information of the patient’s progress with the treatment team and attending Treatment Team meetings as necessary and schedule permits
  • Maintaining an inviting environment and ensuring the house is tidy and clean at all times; replenishes supplies as needed
  • Supporting clinicians and co-leading groups as necessary and providing proper documentation regarding content of group, skills being taught and patient participation
  • Managing behavior in the milieu and working to develop, follow and modify rewards and consequences using a point and level system
  • Working with diet technician on supervising, managing and role modeling mealtime behavior
  • Working to balance building rapport with patients and supporting them to feel comfortable
  • Learning and demonstrating behavior techniques to effectively manage ineffective behavior and attending effective behavior consistently

This is a weekend position working Saturdays and Sundays 8am-2pm

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from four-year college/university OR
  • Two-years of experience working within the mental health, counselor, or eating disorder field OR
  • Two years of experience working with children in an educational field
  • Must be comfortable eating meals in a group setting with ability to model positive eating habits
