We are hiring a Payroll & Benefits Specialist
We are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to become an integral part of our HR operations team We’re looking for self-starting, energetic individuals to help power our rapid development and growth, taking Blue Ridge to new heights daily. As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist, you will work closely with the HR and Finance teams to ensure our staff gets paid accurately and on time This role can be fully remote, or you can choose to work in our offices in Charlottesville, VA, Columbus, OH or Maple Grove, MN.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees (275) ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely distribution.
- Maintain and update payroll records and reports for employee compensation, deductions, bonuses, benefits, and taxes.
- Enroll new employees in the payroll system and update payroll records for any salary, benefits, and employment status changes.
- Administer the time and attendance policy and paid leave policy for all employees to ensure accurate payroll.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Prepare and submit or approve tax reports, including W-2s, W-4s, and other tax forms as necessary.
- Stay up-to-date with new tax laws and regulations that may affect payroll and benefits.
- Work with Paylocity to ensure state tax compliance, account setup, rate adjustments, and mail communications.
- Administer employee benefits programs such as retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, and wellness programs.
- Coordinate with finance to reconcile benefits statements and ensure accurate billing.
- Liaise with benefits vendors and service providers to maintain good working relationships as needed.
- Work with leave management to ensure compliance with local and federal laws.
- Coordinate with external auditors and prepare materials for auditing purposes.
- Evaluate current payroll and benefits procedures and recommend improvements.
- Answer employee questions and troubleshoot issues related to payroll, and benefits.
- AdHOC projects as needed
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Human Resources preferred (can be substituted for years of experience)
- 3-5 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration.
- Proven experience in a payroll position in a fast-paced environment required
- Proficiency working with Paylocity
- Strong knowledge of tax, wage laws, and payroll processing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office
- Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills
- Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Physically able to work seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time
- Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) or benefits certification (e.g., CEBS) is a plus
