Role Overview: The Staff Accountant will assist in maintaining accurate financial records for the medical group by performing a range of accounting tasks. These responsibilities include managing general ledger entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare financial regulations and policies. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
- Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepayments, and other transactions.
- Assist in monthly and annual closing processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany accounts, and other general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in account reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure that financial reports comply with regulations.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions by verifying invoices, processing payments, and managing vendor relationships.
- Ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation for internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare-related accounting standards, such as HIPAA, and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in financial regulations within the healthcare industry.
- Support the preparation and submission of tax filings, such as sales tax and 1099s.
- Ensure timely submission of regulatory filings required for healthcare organizations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably within the healthcare industry or medical group.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or a healthcare-specific accounting system).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
