The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The afterschool hours have become a critical time for youth – a time when many children in our communities are left to fend for themselves without positive adult supervision. We provide a safe place filled with hope and opportunity, ongoing relationships with caring adult mentors, and enriching programs.
Overview of the role
This position supports the Human Resources Director in the day-to-day recruiting and HR transactional functions. The HR Assistant will provide support to the HR Director in areas of recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, policy maintenance and implementation, staff development, maintaining and updating employee’s records, and providing stellar customer service to all Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (BGCH) employees.
The HR Assistant will need to perform precise filing and have the ability to handle confidential or sensitive information of company personnel. This role requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong inter-personal communication skills for the purposes of recruitment and inter-company relations.

- You have in-depth knowledge of strategies.

- Organized and detail-oriented. You have great filing skills (physical and digital), and can manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines.

- Strong experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must pass a background check and complete all applicable pre-employment requirements to meet organizational standards.

What you’ll do
Transactional Duties
- Assist the Human Resources Director with all recruitment functions for the organization
- Review and update all open job postings and job descriptions to be posted.
- Research job posting sites and available resources to post vacant positions.
- Assist in the implementation and upholding of the organization Affirmative Action Plan.
- Post, monitor, and update open positions for applicants on Bamboo HR, the applicant tracking database and other recruitment sites.
- Screen incoming resumes and schedule interviews with qualified candidates.
- Conduct phone/virtual interviews with applicants and coordinate 2nd interviews with hiring managers.
- Complete reference verifications.
- Assist with onboarding new hires with the contingent offer based on passing the pre-employment process to complete (drug testing, background check, required online child safety, fingerprinting, and onboarding new hire packet paperwork) and coordinate with new hire and hiring manager to establish a start date.
- Follow up with hiring managers on new hire paperwork on the first day of employment to collect documents such as I-9 forms, voided check, and identification.
- Input/update employee information into Bamboo HR system which includes new hires, updating benefit enrollments, trainings, status/title/salary changes
- Assist in reconciling monthly employee benefit insurance billing before sending for payment.
- Generate various employee data reports in Bamboo HR system as needed.
- Review incoming volunteer applications and follow through with the onboarding process of tracking safety training and conducting background checks.
- Rescreen employee/volunteer background checks annually. Update master volunteer/ board member spreadsheets.
- Assist with monthly HR Dashboard and headcount reporting.
- Send out monthly employee birthday and anniversary gift cards.
- Maintain I-9, drug testing, and termination binders to ensure employees are properly on/off boarded.
- Assist the Human Resources Director with transactional duties related to different areas of HR operations.
- All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
