Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and older adults with complex health conditions. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives. Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco, Oakland, and Contra Costa counties, engaging more than 125 volunteers daily to nourish our community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Specialist will work under the direction of the Senior Director, Development Operations to improve and implement strategies that grow our mid-level donor base and steward our current donors. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and excited about supporting and growing our strong community giving program with fundraising strategies to support the financial sustainability of the organization. She/he/they will be highly detail-oriented, well-organized, focused and goal-oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy, as well as problem solving skills. This is a forward-facing position that will play an integral role in providing exceptional donor customer service – answering and responding to all donor calls and emails, helping with donor stewardship events and tours, and maintaining accurate and updated information in the donor database. This position will also collaborate with the Senior Director, Major Donors and Planned Giving to build awareness of Project Open Hand’s Supper Club, our monthly donor program, and increase membership and retention. This position will contribute to other Development activities as needed, working as a team player with all members of the Development department.

Salary range: $27 - $31 hourly (commensurate with relevant experience).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum two years working in fundraising
  • Experience providing warm, excellent, and timely customer service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including knowledge of mail merge
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, focused and goal oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy, as well as problem solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences including donors, board members, staff, volunteers, executives, potential funding partners and all constituencies.
  • Light event coordinating experience
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
  • Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for mission and values of Project Open Hand, and show a keen desire for collaboration and teamwork within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Experience working on a fundraising campaign
  • Experience with Salesforce (highly desired) or comparable donor database tools and high-level of proficiency to learn and adapt to any new online fundraising/Customer Relation Management (CRM) tools
  • Experience editing and creating print and digital collateral

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to donor calls and e-mails in a timely, warm, and professional manner.
  • Manage, document and implement all aspects of The Supper Club program, including maintaining monthly updates, collecting on lapsed donations, developing and implementing a stewardship plan and events, launching an annual membership drive, and engaging members to increase membership/retention.
  • Manage the administrative and donor relations activities for the annual Project Open Hand Calendar, including tracking of “Have a Heart” & “Celebrations Days” and the mailing of Calendar orders in a timely manner.
  • Support all aspects of donor engagement and stewardship events.
  • Serve in administrative capacity with other high-touch donor stewardship activities as needed, including thank-you calls, thank-you notes, donor tours, annual thank-a-thons, and helping with personalization on Direct Marketing Appeals.
  • Support the Events Team in all annual fundraising events.
  • Support the Development Operations Team during high-volume Holiday months, helping as back-up with deposits, acknowledgements, data entry, etc
  • Perform other Development and Donor Relations duties as assigned
