Position Summary

This is an ONSITE position located in Bethesda, MD, and will REQUIRE regular travel within the United States.

National Capitol Contracting is seeking a National Events Planner to support the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The CFPB enforces and ensures that consumer financial laws and markets are fair, transparent, competitive and that they work to support consumers, providers and the overall economy.

In this role, you will be responsible for the event planning and management of in-person, hybrid and virtual events throughout the country and locally in the D.C. area.

This position is designed with growth and advancement in mind. The first year of the program will require travel, innovation, customer service, and close coordination with leadership, schedulers, and event organizers. The successful candidate will help build capacity, refine processes and procedures, and set the stage for expansion in the second year; to include management of a small high performing team.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Plan, manage and assist in the execution of logistical aspects of all events.
  • Develop and implement event plans and timelines.
  • Participate in site visits to identify possible event locations, pre-event meetings and planning sessions to ensure effective event management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for creation of event signage, communications, apps, presentations, handouts, and other event materials to support the overall attendee experience.
  • Coordinate lodging and transportation logistics for attendees.
  • Establish decorative and equipment needs for each room within the venue/event, and work with vendors to establish set-up and breakdown schedules.
  • Liaise with internal and external vendors for services including, but not limited to:
    • Audio Visual/IT services
    • Catering
    • Transportation
    • Physical Security requirements
    • Lodging
    • Event documents, signage, advertising, etc.
  • Manage contracts with internal and external vendors.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
  • 3+ years of experience managing complex, high-leverage, high-profile events or conferences
  • 2+ years of project lead experience in event and/or conference strategy, development and execution.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and familiarity with event planning software platforms.
  • Strong experience in coordinating all aspects of a conference event – including directing technical personnel, managing vendors, supporting out of state visitors, organizing hotel and transportation logistics, and communicating with planners, speakers, and visitors.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, presentation and interpersonal skills, and project planning skills.
  • Ability to calculate and balance budgets in Excel, tracking costs and reporting financial status to management including expense reimbursements for travel and conference related activities.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules based on customer’s needs
  • Comfortable traveling and flying on airplanes, renting vehicles, scouting new venues, and forming working relationships with hoteliers and local vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Events Management, Communications Marketing, or related field. (In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered)
  • Certified Government Meeting Professional
