United to Vote Canvasser


Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) is a 40-year-old community-based organization dedicated to empowering people, organizing communities and achieving justice in low-income communities of color. We are an effective, results-oriented organization with a passion for social change. EHC Community Organizers are critical to the success of EHC as an educated, trained, and active base of leaders, residents, members, and allies in San Diego is the foundation of EHC's work.


United to Vote is a campaign that focuses on improving our communities' culture of voting through one-on-one conversations with registered voters (in person and over the phone in their preferred language) to ensure they hear about the issues in an understandable way and know where and how they can vote. We believe every election and especially a down ballot is significant. As a Canvasser for EHC, you will primarily be phone banking remotely and door-knocking in neighborhoods of Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, and West National City.



Position Overview:

As a canvasser at EHC, most of your job will be contacting people to inform them about issues that affect their community such as how/where to vote, and how to support local government policies to improve air quality, public transportation, and green spaces.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Using a survey makes phone calls from a remote workspace of choice or the EHC office.
  • Using a survey and working as a team knocks on doors in neighborhoods such as Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, City Heights, and National City (while maintaining 6 ft of distance).
  • Drops off flyers or other literature on doorsteps of the same communities listed above
  • Gathers pledge to vote in public spaces, community meetings, etc.
  • Attends trainings and workshops to better understand environmental justice issues.
  • Helps with set up and break down of some events.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a quiet workspace to make phone calls remotely when not required to make calls from the EHC office*
  • Good communication skills
  • Punctuality and good work ethic
  • Committed to empowering others in how to make their voices heard in local government
  • Ability to get to required locations on time (either in personal vehicle or via public transportation)
  • Sunday work may be required (GOTV Weekend)

*Phone or tablet with pre-paid data plan provided by EHC - no need to use your personal device



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bilingual (Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese)
  • Access to dependable Wi-Fi ideal
  • Prior experience making phone calls, door knocking, or sales/customer service experience a plus
  • Lives or has family in the communities of Barrio Logan, National City, or City Heights
  • Personal vehicle

Salary Range: $19.99 to $20.99/ hour


Benefits: This role is temporary and is not eligible for full EHC benefits, but is inclusive of:
