The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library/SNFL is the largest circulating library in the NYPL system. This library is a vital hub for library patrons in and around the City of New York and serves as a bridge between our neighborhood libraries and in-depth research library collections.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, this position is responsible for managing audio/visual production and technological needs for a range of events and services in SNFL. This position will coordinate with programming staff and internal departments to determine audiovisual and technological requirements, assist to ensure staffing and equipment needs are met, manage/perform the setup and operation of technology for any event, and perform staff and public technology training and assistance.
We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
- Coordinating with programmers and internal entities to determine audiovisual requirements, help ensure staffing and equipment needs are met
- Interact with AV vendors, perform the onsite setup and operation of audio visual equipment, and coordinate and operate AV technologies remotely for virtual programming
- Room reservation and related support at SNFL
- Other teams about AV production and best practices.
- While communicating in a timely manner with our colleagues regarding the needs of our events
- Train and manage a team of full-and part-time AV technicians during events
- To understand Project management best practices and tools
- To understand the core roles and responsibilities that the AV team contributes to the operation of the Public Programs team and NYPL as an institution

1 month, this person will:
- Learn Stage Management responsibilities
- Help create AV protocol documentation for part-time technicians
- Plan for ongoing support and expansion of programmatic activities at SNFL
- Help ensure part-time technicians learn and understand library policies, institutional and team goals
- Work to create more efficient workflows for the various event rooms and more effectively communicate with our cross-functional team colleagues
- Implement Stage Management responsibilities
- Implement new managerial responsibilities with part-time technicians by participating in conducting regular feedback sessions and resolving conflict
Day-of Event Responsibilities
- Responsible for hands-on equipment set-up/strike and operation of professional audio visual equipment including, audio, video, lighting, projection, and staging.
- Troubleshooting live audio reinforcement, video cameras, projectors and lighting equipment.
- Leading sound-checks with guest talent and production team members.
- Leading the set-up and operation for live and pre-recorded virtual event broadcasting.
- Audio engineering for live events. Including operation and placement of wireless mics.
- Manage live audio and video recordings captured for archival purposes or broadcast quality.
- Leading the set-up/strike and operation of projectors, screens, and lighting equipment.
- Manage/operate/direct multi-camera switched shoots, video recording, and live streaming. Hands on operation of video equipment for single and multi camera shoots.
- Responsible for working closely with AV vendors on event days to ensure services are fulfilled while demonstrating professionalism and persists in seeking goals despite obstacles and setbacks.
- Organizes and maintains archive of department program recordings and media assets to the NYPL website, external hard drives and media server/cold storage.
- Video and audio editing and recording duties.
- Incorporates accessibility features to video recordings. EG: closed captions, subtitles, ASL interpreter video.
- Manages audio transcripts.
- Responsible for decision making related to projects concerning PRGMS archival audio and video materials such as: content discoverability, documentation, organization, and long term preservation.
- Assist in maintaining AV equipment inventory and assists with scheduled maintenance.
- Support branch and program staff. Answers SNFL-related tickets from staff who need A/V assistance or advice.
- Coordinates with colleagues on live event production logistics.
- Organizes, schedules, and tracks accessibility services for programs. Works with captioners, ASL interpreters, and other forms of accessibility.
- Responsible for decision making as it relates to production needs with the Facilities Department and Security teams
- Responsible for participating in the hiring process related to new AV roles. Includes interviewing and decision making for procurement of new team members.
- Departmental responsibilities for managing SNFL room reservations
- Responsible for smoothly handling multiple demands, shifting priorities and rapid change. Adapts his/her strategies and tactics to fit fluid circumstances. Is flexible in how he/she sees events.
- Responsible for effectively managing time in relation to communicating with colleagues and other departments within the library as well as with third party vendors.
- Hands-on technical skills, capable of operating, maintaining and repairing audio visual equipment.
Required Education, Experience & SkillsRequired Experience, Education and Certifications
- Proven experience working professionally in audio visual settings and event productions in a fast paced environment, with meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
- Audio engineering for live events at front of house, Including operating and configuring wireless mics, wiring sound systems and stages for: discussions, panels, speeches, meetings, readings, film/video screenings and presentations, music and live performance.
- Experience with directing, and setting up video and audio for live stream broadcasting/recording of live events and meetings, both in person and remotely.
- Experience with audio and video editing software, primarily Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Proficient with software such as PowerPoint, Keynote, Zoom, Google Meets, YouTube, OBS, and similar presentation and meeting applications.
- Experience with focusing professional lighting fixtures for stage lighting.
- Knowledge of industry standard AV equipment, software, and tools.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Responsible for managing and scheduling AV-related staff, including the delegation of duties and roles for events..
- Responsible for partnering with outside vendor technicians and NYPL production staff
- Production manager administrative responsibilities include planning, executing, and distributing work orders and production schedules and other event day specific production documentation.
- Responsible for working closely with SNFL’s programming teams to review and provide insights.
- On the day-of event, is empowered to liaise with talent, other library staff, and patrons/audience members and make decisions on the fly that are in the best interest of the library and the event.
- Participates in information-gathering and decision-making around AV (in particular video) considering industry best practices while operating in an environment of limited resources and possibly conflicting needs and goals.
- Creating new systems and processes for work flow and production logistics for live events both in person and remotely.
- Assist the SNFL Programming teams with decision making in regards to equipment purchases, maintenance, and solutions, and manage SNFL room reservations and support.
