The Role

We are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant and Financial Controller with a strong foundation in accounting principles, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently in our Kirkland, WA office. This role involves completing the monthly closes, preparing financial statements, processing AP/AR transactions, filing required financial and tax reporting documents, and ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations. Our senior staff accountant and financial controller will play a key role in supporting the VP of Finance and Operations and the financial operations of our company, with a commitment to a culture of trust, collaboration, and mutual support.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely completion of the monthly close while adhering to established processes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements as needed.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing and collection of payments.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Prepare and file required financial reports and tax documents.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets.
  • Provide support in financial forecasting and planning activities.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the VP of Finance & Operations to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Provide support to the Office Manager and other team members as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as required.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification or progress towards CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite with an understanding of QuickBooks.
  • Experience with revenue, purchase, and consolidation accounting.
  • Familiarity with internal and external audit processes.
  • Worked on or supported fundraising diligence.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised, and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
