Use Your Strengths at Wellmark as a Payroll Analyst

As a Payroll Analyst at Wellmark, your key responsibilities include performing all payroll processing and related accountabilities necessary to process multi-state and multi-company biweekly payrolls. This encompasses maintaining all related records, processing voluntary and involuntary deductions, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures, and preparing routine and special reports as requested by leadership. You will serve as a key contributor to the development, implementation, and documentation of all payroll processes and controls that impact the company’s financial statements, along with assessing the adequacy of those controls to ensure financial statements are complete, accurate and in compliance with the principles of Sarbanes Oxley.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate's Degree in Business, finance or accounting related field or direct and applicable work experience. 
  • 3+ years of related experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll administration and processing including exposure to complex payroll structures (such as multi-company or multi-state environment). Strong knowledge of state and federal taxation laws and regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity of corporate benefits policies and practices and application to payroll.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientation, including demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure to meet timeliness and accuracy guidelines. Experience working within defined processes and workflows, documenting processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation skills; demonstrated experience working both independently and cooperatively on teams, developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external contacts including providing subject matter expertise through stakeholder consulting.
  • Experience in running moderately complex reports and exposure to developing and pulling ad-hoc reports in a related system.

Additional Information

a. Provide payroll administration subject matter expertise including payroll practices, regulations, and Workday/ADP to ensure payroll compliance and efficiency, and the timely/accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll. 

b. Administer and authorize financial wires/transactions to cover payroll-related accruals and liabilities on behalf of Wellmark (provide justification materials for leadership authorization when required).

c. Ensure timely and accurate general ledger postings, adjustments and reconciliations, as well as serving as a resource for more complex, payroll-related accounting issues.

d. Research and resolve complex inquiries, and provide expertise to Payroll team and/or HR Solutions and other staff to improve overall service levels.

e. Coordinate information gathering and sharing for audits and/or legal-related inquiries.

f. Prepare periodic or special reports relating to compensation and labor statistics for governmental agencies, tax authorities, insurance companies, industry associations, and other areas of the Company as required.

g. Assist in auditing preview reports, year-end wage and tax reports, and W-2 previews.

h. Utilize report writing software to run payroll reports of all types, including but not limited to, running reports that segregate employees by Corporate ID numbers, work location, benefits election, state, etc.

i. Maintain positive and collaborative stakeholder and vendor relations. Work effectively and cooperatively with Payroll vendors and other third parties to determine the optimization of all applications and work processes.

j. Follow payroll procedures and adheres to payroll and accounting principles and policies. Recommend changes in policies and procedures for purposes of improving the responsiveness and efficiency of the department.

k. Review, and recommend business process improvements regarding Payroll related processes and systems.

l. Assist with creating, running, analyzing, and distributing payroll/labor related statistical reports, regulatory reporting and queries.

m. Other job related duties as assigned.
