About Galin Education

Galin Education (www.galined.com) is an education organization that works with students as they navigate middle and high school and prepare for and apply to college. We work with students one-on-one and in small groups for tutoring, enrichment, executive functioning, test prep, and admissions counseling for college. Galin Education also works with a variety of education organizations throughout the country, including schools, camps, and educational technology companies to develop and execute programming, revamp curriculum, and craft policies and outreach efforts.

Director of Instruction Responsibilities

The Director of Instruction (DI) manages our test preparation and tutoring curricula, materials, and training, in addition to directly working with students. This person must have impeccable communication skills, be able to connect with both high school students and their parents, and be incredibly knowledgeable about executive functioning, standardized tests, and tutoring pedagogy. S/he will also support our tutors through the onboarding process, initial and ongoing training, and development. The DI spends approximately half his/her time working with current students and the other half developing curriculum, training tutors, and meeting with prospective families.

The position reports to the President and has office hours expectations. Because we work mostly with high school students and their parents, we tend to be in the office in the later afternoons, evenings, and weekends. There is some flexibility in schedule, as long as it is coordinated with families and other full-time staff. The position will evolve over time as the ideal candidate will take our current practices and expand and enhance them.

  • Evaluate and review tutor and coach feedback and revise curriculum to meet tutor suggestions
  • Create marketing materials for test preparation, including sample mini-tests and diagnostics
  • Develop and design workbooks and curriculum for standardized exams

Tutor and Coach Training & Development (15%)

  • Participate in the evaluation of potential tutors and coaches by assisting Director of Education
  • On-board new tutors through orientation and initial training;
  • Assist in conducting semi-annual tutor evaluations using a 360 review process leading to a tutor development plan;
  • Coordinate weekly to monthly tutor training sessions.

  • Tutor and coach at least 15 sessions per week
  • Communicate with students’ parents

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) from a top tier school;
  • Experience in education (classroom teaching or significant tutoring);
  • Score roughly at or above the 95th percentile on standardized exams;
  • Ability to teach all sections of the ACT and/or SAT;
  • Experience working with students on building executive functioning and study skills;
  • Strong customer service skills and comfort communicating with high school students and parents, individually and in groups;
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to multitask, set priorities, and manage time;
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy and precision in all communications;
  • Intermediate skills in social media platforms and Microsoft Excel;
  • Valid drivers license;
  • Sense of humor;
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends;
  • Passion for working with high school aged students.

We expect the Director of Instruction to work with limited supervision and be accountable for results. This person is incredibly responsive and responsible, energetic, and competitive.

This is a salaried position and compensation is competitive. There are opportunities for commission and bonuses. Start date is flexible.
