Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm

Supervisor: Chief Medical Officer

Department: Clinical Administration

Job Type: Full-Time 37.5 hours weekly

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) was founded in 1996 to ensure that the socio-economically depressed and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services, Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved/uninsured residents.


BCHN’s mission: To improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured persons; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 zip codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.


BCHN is seeking to hire an Enrollment Specialist to help patients’ complete insurance applications and enroll in a plan.

About the Role: The Enrollment Specialist will effectively communicate coverage information to patients, and interpret complex information, including processes, procedures, and legal/regulatory requirements. Responsible for performing various data entry functions.

  • Assisting patients in understanding insurance choices, federal tax subsidies, public plans, plan benefits, co-payment and other cost-sharing expenses
  • Completing enrollment process for clients, following case from initial file set-up to completion
  • Educating consumers on their benefits and responsibilities under Affordable Care Act
  • Contacting NY State of Health to resolve issues, as needed.
  • Facilitating selection of a qualified health plan to consumers who are applying for health insurance coverage at the time of application and at renewals.
  • Assuring that all applications are accurately completed and submitted on time, adhering to current submission guidelines.
  • Meeting productivity and quality performance targets
  • Performing services in a culturally competent manner, considering individual needs with regard to language, disability access, and reading level
  • Referring consumers to other organizations for help with grievances, complaints, or questions regarding health coverage or a determination related to coverage.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy standards
  • Ability to successfully execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Follow best practice and clinical standards and adhere to departmental and NY State guidelines.
  • Support the Health Center administrative goals and requirements.
  • Checks and verifies that all documents are complete and ready for submission.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • More than two (2) years of equivalent experience

Special Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Experience with Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Ability to maintain detailed documentation and records in an organized manner.
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent active listening skills and strong service orientation
