We are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineering Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing industrial processes through your expertise in control, monitoring, and measurement of casting operations. Your responsibilities will include providing engineering services and advice, conducting comprehensive reviews of production methods, equipment layout, and material utilization, and preparing insightful reports to drive operational efficiencies.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design modifications and improvements to equipment, mechanisms, and tooling based on established concepts and instructions in support of new product and process development projects.
  • Process Development and Improvement: Develops and implements process improvements to reduce costs, enhance product marketability and reliability, improve competitiveness, and improve quality and safety of specific operations. May prepare and submit capital justifications necessary to support the changes necessitated within the forecasted budget. Coordinates the implementation of all new product and model changes through cooperation with other departments. Identifies production concerns and takes steps to correct problems. Establish, monitor, and maintain die cast parameters. Assist in work cell development. Oversee, maintain, and improve automation in all manufacturing departments.
  • Documentation: Initiates and maintains documentation, prepares reports, blueprints, etc. supporting process and manufacturing improvements. Develops budget requests regarding any plan changes.
  • Quality: Develops and maintains all departmental procedures supporting and maintaining ISO certification. Participate in quality programs as assigned.
  • Create preliminary and detail design drawings using 3D solid modeling with proficiency. Ensure that models and drawings conform to established AMMO modeling and drawing standards.
  • Utilize advanced software to ensure proper form, fit and function of tooling and machine assemblies through a full range of motion. Apply analytical methods including FEA, engineering formulas, and industry best practices to evaluate tooling and equipment designs under static, dynamic, and thermal loading.
  • Participate in training and projects to create and maintain continuous improvements in products, processes, and quality to help maintain and reduce waste and cost.
  • Work closely with all departments and production employees, including training on process to insure understanding and the relationship to quality and cost.
  • Develop a basic understanding of the forming behavior of parts and apply during the design effort to avoid tooling or drawing problems such as premature fracture, tearing, and wear, or inconsistent capability. Leverage companywide expertise to develop and apply this basic skill.
  • Contribute to the creation of project plans as required and provide status updates to project management.
  • Assist with the fabrication, assembly, and debug of tooling and equipment to ensure systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Provide operational, maintenance, and repair guidance to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment. Recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
  • Assist in the analysis of tooling failures and reliability issues, recommend improvements
  • Apply engineering expertise to tool design identified during design and development activities.
  • Provide engineering expertise to quotation activity as required.
  • Provide technical data in support of material and outside services quotation efforts to assure compliance with customers specifications.
  • Assist with development, improvement, and maintenance activities to assure engineering expertise is applied to the problem-solving process where appropriate.
  • Provide customer design engineers (via project management) with technical feedback concerning design feasibility of new products or modifications to existing products and processes.
  • Be involved in the development of new or improved tooling and/or equipment and processes to facilitate the introduction of a new product, or an improvement in cost, quality or delivery of existing products.
  • Assist in defining tooling standards to allow for ease of tool manufacturing, reduce lead times, and increase tool performance.
  • Utilize mechanical engineering tools and methods to provide effective direction to the Tool Design team to assure robust and cost-effective tooling solutions.
  • Evaluate tooling, equipment and process options for quotations depending on customer request date or budget.
  • Directly affect the organizations’ ability to smoothly assimilate new work into production.
  • Participates in JSC's Continual Improvement Process.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor for additional experience and/or training or refinement skills or in preparation for advancement.
  • Occupation includes a requirement to follow EHS procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Minimum Skills and Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a related engineering function in a metalworking or manufacturing automation environment.
  • A high level of mechanical aptitude is required.
  • The ability to visualize the configuration of tooling and equipment is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • The ability along with the interpersonal skills to manage projects involving highly skilled individuals.
  • Math, problem solving, mechanical and reading abilities required.
  • Industrial experience desired.
  • Skilled in performing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Must be able to influence change & lead those who oppose change.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and make calculations.
