The mission of the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) is to monitor the Massachusetts health care system and to provide reliable information and meaningful analysis for those seeking to improve health care quality, affordability, access, and outcomes.  CHIA also acts as a principal repository for health care data collected by the state and is responsible for the Massachusetts All Payer Claims Database (APCD) and Acute Hospital Case Mix Database.

CHIA is seeking Senior Research and Analytic Advisor to support the development of meaningful health system and service research and analysis to leverage the agency’s extensive data resources.  The Senior Research and Analytic Advisor will work closely with the research team and in collaboration with other colleagues in CHIA to develop practical and optimal research and analytical strategies for utilizing CHIA data assets, including survey data, case-mix datasets, and all-payer claims database. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience in survey design and analytics, in-depth knowledge in readmissions analysis, and demonstrated experience in using administrative data sources for public reporting. This position will entail support for the design, planning, and execution of research projects.

The hourly rate for this position will be $67.00.

Detailed Duties:

  • Provide guidance and support in planning, designing, analysis and reporting from surveys.
  • Serve as the content expert in the preparation of readmissions reports and findings.
  • Provide guidance and support in developing analysis and reporting from hospital discharge data.
  • Implement and produce in-depth research analysis on focused topics using CHIA survey data, case mix, APCD, and other data, and lead public reporting efforts.
  • Interpret data and produce clear and comprehensive written analyses, graphics, tables, and presentations for distribution to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Review written work products including analyses, briefs, and reports and recommend revisions or changes to format, content, or style.
  • Collaborate with team members in developing analytical plans appropriate for each project as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in research and analysis, reporting, and data management.
  • Advanced degree in social sciences, public policy, public health, or quantitative field required; experience in health services research, epidemiology, program evaluation or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in survey data processing, analysis and reporting and/or case mix, claims data analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of conducting readmissions analysis with administrative datasets
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully drafting, reviewing, and producing products for public reporting.
  • Extensive experience with data management and analysis using SAS and SQL as well as any other major statistical packages such as SPSS, R or Stata.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in groups.
  • Deep understanding of the Massachusetts health care system.
