Job Summary

Luna Labs is seeking a creative and motivated Project Management Engineer to coordinate and manage timelines, budgets, resources and task completion on large technical projects and to set goals and objectives commercialization of materials-based technologies. The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment to mature technology development to create products and establish commercial partnerships for transition to the marketplace. Current areas of development in the Materials Research Group at Luna Labs include carbon capture membranes, ceramic composites, protective coatings, and multifunctional polymer composites. It is desired that the candidate will have a background in Chemistry or Materials Science, with experience in large project management and product commercialization. The selected candidate will work closely with the Materials Director and staff scientists / engineers to drive projects, meet milestones and deadlines, and push technologies towards a commercial end goal or securing development funding.

Duties and Major Responsibilities:

• Assist Director and Principal Investigators to manage a $3-5M project (or several $1M projects) - setting and executing on technical and business milestones, coordinating project deliverables, managing project budget, and coordinating subcontractors/vendors/customers

• Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff (e.g., principal investigator, engineers, chemists, business and product managers) as well as vendors, external partners and clients

• Prepare and present periodic project status updates to internal team members and external customers

• Ensure that the team meets technical and budgetary milestones with regular internal/external meetings using project management tools e.g., Gantt Charts, OneNote, SharePoint, CostPoint, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical degree such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or similar

• A minimum of 5 years’ project management experience in research, technology transfer, or product development environments.

• Practical experience leading multi-million dollar technical projects, with knowledge of project management methodology and techniques. Project management certification (PMP or similar) is preferred.

• Background knowledge of business, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation procedures.

• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work positively and productively with a wide range of individuals involved in project and program management.

• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to elicit trust, exert influence, and obtain buy-in from internal and external partners.

• Comfortable with taking initiative to complete complex tasks, quickly and autonomously, reacting with appropriate urgency, and holding the internal and external team members responsible to meet milestones

Due to government contracting regulations, U.S. Citizenship is a firm requirement.
