ABOUT ACHIEVERS:

Achievers Early College Prep Charter School (AECP) is New Jersey's first public charter school for students in middle school and high school that provides them with the unique opportunity to pursue one of four STEAM pathways (Health Sciences, Digital Media, Audio Engineering and Cisco Computer Networking). Students can have access to a program that allows them to earn up to 60 college credits, NOCTI credentials and workplace training. AECP is determined to ensure that students can enhance their journey through high school and graduate with content mastery, skills, and experiences that are essential to the current marketplace and the world beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

To provide classroom instruction for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses. Provides innovate and creative, commitment to STEM education, and an overall passion for project, problem-based learning with real world application. Ensures all students acquire the course level objectives set forth in the National PLTW Curriculum.

The STEAM Teacher is responsible for educating students 6-8 grade in a charter school environment providing them Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM) resources and curriculum, the Teacher ensures that a child- centered, active lesson is prepared for student enrichment each day. Additional areas of responsibility are creating an active learning environment, facilitating the curriculum, personalizing the curriculum to meet the needs of the students, integrating technology into the classroom, and partnering with staff members, students, parents, and administration.

  • Computer and Equipment Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and experience with Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; CAD and Development software as required through PLTW. Additionally individuals will utilize standard office equipment including photocopiers and telephone systems.
  • Personnel Management: Skilled at developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of PLTW, State, and school.
  • Assigns lessons, corrects homework and provides students with positive feedback and constructive criticism on assignments.
  • Administers tests to evaluate student's progress, record results, and issues reports or conducts meetings to inform parents of progress.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Maintains discipline in classroom.
  • Keeps attendance records.
  • Recognizes and refers students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems to District specialists as required.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with the parents.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an upper elementary, middle, or high school with an underserved population
  • Adept interpersonal and communication skills to diverse audiences
  • Valid NJ Teacher Certification completed or in progress
  • A four year degree in one of the following areas: Math, Science, Physics, Industrial Technologies OR a four year degree in a field of Engineering.
  • The successful candidate will become a PLTW instructor teaching the nationally certified STEM curriculum.
