Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Our comprehensive approach to whole girl development equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. These positive outcomes are achieved through three core elements: people - trained staff and volunteers who build lasting, mentoring relationships; environment - girls-only, physically and emotionally safe, where there is a sisterhood of support, high expectations, and mutual respect; and programming - research-based, hands-on and minds-on, age-appropriate, meeting the needs of today’s girls. Informed by girls and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities for all girls and address the systemic barriers that impede girls’ success, particularly girls in low-income communities and girls of color.
Position Overview
Girls Inc. of Chicago is seeking a responsible and experienced Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Programs and will be responsible for facilitating Girls Inc. of Chicago programming and providing guidance and consultation to program facilitators focused on continuous quality improvement. The Program Coordinator will identify, plan and coordinate mission-aligned special events and field trips, conduct program quality assessments, provide socio-emotional tools for parents and families and maintain relationships with girls, families, school staff and partner agencies.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Scheduling and Other Logistics (50%)
Lead the coordination and outreach communication regarding session scheduling, field trips, meeting logistics, maintaining program materials, and programming at partner school sites.
Coordinate outreach communication with school officials regarding programmatic updates
Collaborate and communicate with the Director of Programs about progress, successes, and challenges
Collaborate with Learning Coordinators to schedule all elements of exposure experiences including but not limited to round trip transportation, admission, identifying locations for lunch storage, dividing girls into groups, communication with school staff, parent permission slips, etc.
Lead all elements of the Girl of the Month process across all school sites to ensure that Learning Coordinators are conducting interviews, selecting girls, and communicate information with the Director of Development
Work with school staff, Learning Coordinators, the Community Engagement department to coordinate participation of girls from school sites to attend Girls Inc. of Chicago’s annual Innovate Her festival and other GIoC citywide events
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends (e.g. gala, InnovateHer, She Shines) in addition to business hours
Camp Logistics (Seasonal)
Lead the coordination of all elements of spring and summer camp logistics including but not limited to
parent orientation for camp
coordinate attendance roster data
ordering of instructional supplies
dissemination of instructional supplies including but not limited to t-shirts
creating a plan for securing snacks from the Greater Chicago Food Depository and distributing snacks and lunches
coordinating logistics for exposure experiences including but not limited to compiling contact information for all campers and staff, ensure first aid kits are prepared and available, conduct safety briefings and emergency response training, ensure all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities, coordinate appropriate items including name tags, storage bins for lunches, first aid kits, etc., ensure camper to chaperone ratios are appropriate.
Securing round trip transportation for exposure experiences
Coordinating logistics for exposure experiences including but not limited to admission, identifying locations for lunch storage, girl name badges, dividing girls into groups, etc
Communicating with parents and families regarding important updates (e.g. reminders about trips, lunches, etc.)
Working with partner agencies for camp rotation sessions with girls
Program Facilitation (50%)
Must be able to facilitate programming to girls in groups of 15 – 25 and between the ages of 5-18, in-person and must adapt session plans for their targeted audience and age group.
Prepare for, and facilitate hands-on and intentional programming activities within our Core Essential Services (Healthy Living, Academic Enrichment and Support, Life Skills);
Develop content according to the guidelines and delivery schedule outlined in Girls Inc’s in-person programming models;
Maintain safe spaces by implementing in-person and online safeguards for engagement;
Conduct essential tasks to ensure the maintenance of program equipment and distribution of at-home activity supplies;
Identifies ways to encourage, collect, and share girls’ work;
Coordinate all exposure experiences for assigned school sites.
Share photos, quotes, videos, and success stories at least bi-weekly with stakeholders including the CEO, Development Department, Board of Directors, etc.
Submit Girl of the Month materials including photos and completed questionnaire each month in alignment with required deadlines.
Collaborate, and be in regular communication, with school-staff to determine ongoing girl needs, and opportunities to align activities to academic goals;
Support with the planning and implementation of special events/projects;
Supports goals for girl engagement and family outreach;
Recruit girls from their school sites to participate in Spring and Summer Camp, InnovateHER Fest and similar all-Girls Inc. of Chicago events
Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and work in collaboration with Girls Inc. staff and partner contacts;
Maintain relationships with girls and their families and provide individual support ensuring their ability to effectively engage in the program;
Create and share family engagement activities for independent projects;
Collect family and girls needs assessment data;
Effectively communicate with girls and their families, when engaging during sessions, by-phone via email and online
Maintain and track girl attendance, using a comprehensive tracking database in support of program evaluation.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Passionate about the Girls Inc. mission and values and working with youth in grades Kindergarten-12th grade.
Seeks to inspire, motivate, and empower personnel to achieve the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic program goals
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of early childhood education, youth growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning and knowledge of equity issues facing girls of color.
Must be punctual, prepared, have a positive attitude and is at ease with serving as a positive role model for girl participants, staff, and the community.
Effective communicator, with the ability to adapt communication styles and messages to meet the needs of various audiences;
Must be self-directed, detail oriented with proven written and oral communication skills, as well as group facilitation skills.
Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively maintain information for recording purposes and maintain standards of record keeping
Proficient in Word and excel.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate effectively and work collaboratively with youth, families and professionals
Must have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation. Reliable and consistent transportation and the ability, to work and travel daily, between the hours of 8am-6pm to multiple school sites throughout Chicago, predominantly throughout the South Side.
Must be CPR and First Aide certified
Proven experience working with diverse backgrounds, cultures and perspectives.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Non-profit studies, Education, Human Development, Gender Studies, Social Work or related field;
3+ year experience in program/project coordination and building community collaboration
2+ years of experience facilitating youth programs, and confidence and skill focused on training and public speaking.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience in database systems.
Candidates must pass a criminal history records check, and drug screening, in addition to other safety requirements.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends in addition to business hours
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position requires the ability to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment, and the physical ability to perform light lifting. This person must be able to communicate effectively with program participants. Work is generally performed in an office or classroom setting, and may involve standing, stooping, bending, and walking. Girls Inc. will make accommodations when necessary. This person may be required to travel to various locations throughout Chicago. Generally, the working conditions have little or no exposure to extremes in safety hazards or hazardous materials.
