The Clinical Lab Scientist - Microbiologist performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures specific to microbiology to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. The objective of this position is to provide accurate and timely microbiology test results to aid in patient care. The Clinical Lab Scientist - Microbiologist is responsible for the proper performance of microbiology tests, including specimen processing, culture and sensitivity testing, and identification of microorganisms. Additionally, they are expected to follow all laboratory policies and procedures and maintain accurate records of all tests performed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of microbiology tests and procedures, including but not limited to:

- Specimen processing and handling

- Culture and sensitivity testing

- Identification of microorganisms

- Antimicrobial susceptibility testing

- Parasitology testing

- Mycology testing

- Molecular diagnostics for infectious diseases

- Quality control and equipment maintenance specific to microbiology

Ensure all microbiology tests are conducted accurately and in a timely manner.

Follow laboratory policies and procedures and maintain accurate records of all tests performed.

Communicate microbiology test results and analysis to medical staff, including pathologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Perform and document quality control procedures and participate in the evaluation of new testing methods and equipment specific to microbiology.

Maintain proper inventory of supplies and equipment for microbiology testing, and perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.

Adhere to all safety and quality guidelines and regulations specific to microbiology.

Stay updated with new developments and advancements in microbiology testing and adhere to best practices in the field.

Assist in the training and supervision of lab assistants and other personnel in microbiology testing.

Participate in continuing education and maintain appropriate certification and licensure in microbiology.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or a related field

- Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by a recognized certifying agency

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist with specific focus on microbiology

- Strong knowledge of microbiology testing procedures, techniques, and equipment

- Experience with molecular diagnostics and other advanced techniques in microbiology is preferred

- Proficient in the use of laboratory information systems and computer software for microbiology testing

- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills in microbiology testing

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment for microbiology testing

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with medical staff in relation to microbiology

- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively for microbiology testing

- Strong commitment to quality patient care and safety in microbiology testing
