The Mentor Coordinator is responsible for assisting with achieving mentor recruitment, selection, training, processing, monitoring, and retention objectives in the Take Stock in Children local program. Is responsible for planning and execution of al Take Stock in Children events, directing staff and volunteers through the event process.

The major duties and responsibilities of this position include supporting the following:

Essential Duties

Recruitment

· Collaborate with local Take Stock in Children program manager to develop and implement a comprehensive, countywide mentor recruitment strategy.

· Build relationships with organizations having a sufficient population of potential mentors.

· Pursue leads to potential mentor populations provided by Take Stock in Children program leadership.

· Achieve Take Stock in Children’s countywide mentor recruitment objectives.

Processing

· Ensure that all mentors promptly receive a background check from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (at a minimum).

· Make final selection on volunteer enrollment based on Take Stock in Children guidelines

· Ensure that all mentors promptly participate in a comprehensive mentor training program that defines their roles and responsibilities; describes guidelines and regulations; and provides tools, materials and suggested activities.

· Match mentors with students, and ensure that all new students are matched with mentors before their contracts are signed.

Monitoring and Retention

· Assist with tracking key performance indicators in the areas of mentor recruitment, application processing, screening, training, and matching on a timely basis, evaluating performance against targets, and communicating the results to the local program’s Take Stock in Children leadership.

· Collaborate with local Mentor Coordinators and Take Stock in Children College Success Coaches to monitor mentor/mentee relationship.

· Assist with conducting on-going communication with all mentors through e-mails, mailings, phone calls, surveys, newsletter, flyers, etc.

· Assist in the organization and production of mentor appreciation, recognition, and training activities and events.

Travel

· May include occasional evening and weekend events and trainings after hours and/or on weekends.

· Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with company policies and procedures. Must comply with all federal, state, and local regulations including those required for the secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).

· Other job duties may be assigned based on the needs of the business.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to assist with setting and achieving mentor recruitment goals.
  • Knowledge or understanding of volunteer recruitment approaches.
  • Ability to implement innovative, creative approaches to mentor recruitment.
  • Ability to assist with making compelling individual and group presentations that fulfill the objective of recruiting mentors.
  • Ability to work with Mentor Coordinator and all local constituencies (this will include local business executives, lead agencies, staff members, and school system representatives) to bring about desirable results.
