Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between Veritas Steel Production and DOT Inspectors to ensure compliance with production operations and quality control checkpoints.
  • Conduct visual inspections of materials as necessary.
  • Perform layout assessments as required.
  • Execute rotational capacity evaluations on bolts prior to their use in the shop.
  • Collaborate with external inspectors to address quality concerns on the production floor.
  • Oversee welder qualification assessments.
  • Monitor and document welding parameters to ensure adherence to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Interpret and understand relevant welding codes and specifications.
  • Conduct dimensional checks on laydowns and shop assemblies, utilizing Total Station as needed.
  • Identify and implement enhancements in the quality control process to improve workflow within the shop.

Essential Skills:

  • Conduct audits of the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure quality work processes are maintained throughout the shop.
  • Collaborate with welders and team leaders to uphold quality standards.
  • Be readily available for inspections and checks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs of work performed and complete necessary reporting.
  • Interpret specifications and applicable codes effectively.
  • Exhibit flexibility to work varied shifts as required.
  • Coordinate inspections of quality control checkpoints between production and DOT Inspectors.
  • Promote and practice safe working habits.

Competencies Required:

  • Strong communication skills to relay inspection results and proposed solutions to crews, supervisors, and the Quality Manager.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utilizing measurement tools to verify geometric tolerances of fabricated components.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the capacity to make informed decisions based on project specifications.
  • Coordinate efforts with the shipping department to ensure inspected loads are ready for dispatch.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors to plan and prioritize tasks for efficient workflow.
  • General knowledge of Total Station technology to assist teams as necessary.
  • Foster a positive work environment and mentor employees to enhance workmanship quality.

Requirements:

  • Certified Welding Inspector Certification or ASNT VT Level II preferred.
  • ASNT MT Level II, ASNT UT Level II, NACE, or SSPC BCI Level I qualifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in a fabrication shop setting is preferred.
