About CommonHealth

CommonHealth is an AndroidTM platform that lets people collect and manage their personal health data and share it with the health providers, organizations and apps they trust. Available for download via Google Play, CommonHealth leverages data interoperability standards, including SMART Health Cards and HL7 FHIR, to offer functionality analogous to Apple Health to users of Android™ phones. CommonHealth is a platform of The Commons Project Foundation, developed in collaboration with UCSF, Cornell Tech, and Sage Bionetworks with broad participation from members of the healthcare ecosystem.

We are seeking a Head of Development to join our team. The ideal candidate should bring extensive experience in overseeing and coordinating fundraising and development initiatives within the non-profit sector. This position calls for a strategic-minded individual with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of fostering and sustaining relationships with donors, supporters, and key stakeholders. The primary objective is to secure financial sustainability and foster growth to bolster the success of TCP's programs and initiatives.

 

Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Fundraising Strategies:

  • Formulate, execute, and assess comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with the organization's mission and objectives.

  • Translate The Commons Project Foundation mission and strategies into clear and compelling vision for funders.

  • Guide marketing team on creation of digital marketing collateral to support fundraising activities.

  • Identify and pursue diverse funding sources, encompassing grants, individual donations, corporate partnerships, and special campaigns.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with individual donors, major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

  • Devise and implement strategies for donor cultivation, recognition, and stewardship.

Grant Writing and Management:

  • Conduct research to identify grant opportunities; prepare, submit, and oversee grant proposals.

  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure accurate representation of programs in grant applications and reports.

Fundraising Events:

  • Plan, organize, and execute fundraising events, ensuring alignment with TCP’s mission and effective donor engagement.

  • Supervise logistics, budgeting, and promotional activities for events.

Collaboration with Programs and Communications:

  • Partner with program teams to comprehend project needs and funding priorities.

  • Work closely with the communications team to create impactful fundraising materials, including appeals, newsletters, and social media content.

Budget Oversight and Reporting:

  • Develop and manage the fundraising budget, monitoring expenses for financial sustainability.

  • Provide regular reports to leadership on fundraising performance, utilizing data and metrics to guide decision-making.

Compliance and Accountability:

  • Ensure adherence to nonprofit regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Maintain accurate and current donor records and grant documentation.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree is a plus. (e.g., nonprofit management, business, communications).

  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a successful track record in donor cultivation and solicitation across US, Europe and Africa, understanding specific contexts of each.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

  • Knowledge of fundraising software and databases.

  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing fundraising activities.

  • Passion for and understanding of the mission and values of the organization.
