Our client is a rapidly growing company in Central Iowa dedicated to innovation and excellence in automation engineering for its products. It is seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Engineer to join its dynamic team.

The Senior Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading product design and development. This includes evaluating and selecting components, creating specifications, designing and testing procedures, performing calculations, and conducting research and reporting. The successful candidate will lead the integration of engineering systems across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead product design and development, including the selection and testing of electrical components, preparation of specifications, and design of testing procedures
  • Oversee control system design and implementation for engineering projects, ensuring continuous improvement and integration with large-scope development projects
  • Provide innovative solutions and leadership for new products, evaluating criteria such as cost, benefits, reliability, and scheduling
  • Support engineering systems across multiple platforms and function as a technical resource to team members, collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineering teams
  • Maintain CAD, product data management, ERP/MRP systems, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer, software, or electrical engineering (or related field); associate’s degree with equivalent experience accepted
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in machine programming (PLC programming preferred) and electrical design CAD packages (Solidworks Electrical preferred)
  • Experience with Beckhoff Automation hardware/software or similar platforms, and capable of designing machine control software and electrical control assemblies
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical layouts, manufacturing equipment, and familiarity with NEC, NFPA 79, and UL Standard 508
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace; minimal travel required
