POSITION OVERVIEW

ABOUT THE POSITION
As an Automated Systems Engineer at Des Moines Water Works, you will play a vital role in the upkeep and troubleshooting of industrial automation control systems. Collaborating with a dedicated team, you will engage in the design, analysis, coding, testing, training, and implementation of control and data systems to guarantee the efficient functioning of water treatment facilities. This position is essential for ensuring the provision of safe and dependable water to the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and sustain industrial control systems adhering to recognized standards
  • Install and oversee telemetry and fiber systems for remote operations
  • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to diagnose and rectify equipment issues
  • Employ software tools for control system design and configuration
  • Program Human Machine Interfaces and set up SQL databases
REQUIREMENTS

Education:
  • Completion of a two-year accredited program in industrial automation or electronics
Experience:
  • A minimum of five years in industrial automation or electronics
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and maintenance of control systems
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Iowa Driver's License
  • Preferred: Iowa DNR Grade 1 Water Treatment License
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Expertise in electronic systems, PLCs, and HMIs
  • Fundamental mechanical and computer skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Capability to lift and manage heavy equipment
  • Ability to work in diverse physical environments
  • Willingness to be available for on-call duties and emergency situations
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to machinery noise and hazardous substances
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and challenging weather conditions
