Job Summary/Objective:

The Vacuum Coating Technician operates and maintains multiple pieces of high-vacuum equipment producing a wide variety of complex optical coatings. They work with a team to optimize output and maximize performance.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

● Prepare coating equipment for deposition including but not limited to chemical preparation, media blasting, hardware changes, job selection

● Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-vacuum thin film deposition equipment. Identify, troubleshoot, and correct process related issues

● Schedule and perform preventative maintenance tasks

● Evaluate coated optical components for adherence to spectral, cosmetic, and physical specifications

● Develop a working knowledge of thin film optical designs

● Work with a team of operators and schedulers to optimize output of several vacuum systems by assisting in organizing workload and maintaining equipment for maximum performance

● Set up/flip glass substrates for coating using various manual and automated processes

● Interface with various departments (Quality Control, Engineering, Sales, Production Control, etc.) to streamline custom manufacturing in a self-directed work team environment

Work Environment:

● Chroma is a fast paced, collaborative, high tech manufacturing environment

● Work is performed in a cleanroom which requires wearing a lab coat, hair net, dedicated shoes, gloves and a beard net when applicable

● This role regularly uses hand tools and measuring equipment as well as reagent alcohol

● Although noise limits do not exceed OSHA permissible exposure limits, this department is known as a louder work area at Chroma

Physical Demands:

● Enter data into computer systems and/or produce documents, typically utilizing a computer keyboard

● Close vision for product inspection and computer work

● Regular, predictable attendance to meet production demands

● Ability to grasp and move very small objects

● Ability to sit and/or stand at work station for extended periods of time

● Ability to secure equipment, typically by hand or utilizing hand tools that require wrist rotation

● Ability to activating equipment utilizing a foot pedal

● Ability to place and retrieve items in overhead bins and access tops of equipment with or without use of a step ladder/platform

● Ability to accessing drains 6-8 inches from the floor typically by bending, crouching, or sitting

● Ability to work with hands above head level for up to 15 minutes at a time

● Ability to recognize audio alerts

Required Education, Experience, and Eligibility Qualifications:

● Ability to effectively utilize MS Office Google and email

Preferred Education, Experience, and Eligibility Qualifications:

● High-vacuum, optics or electro-mechanical experience

● General background in science/mathematics

● Manufacturing experience

● Comfort with computers in a manufacturing environment (Windows, database entry)
