We seek a detail-oriented Clinical Data Abstractor with experience in ocular health to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optometry or ophthalmology and will be responsible for accurately abstracting and entering medical data into our complex database/registry system. This role is crucial for supporting our research initiatives and quality improvement efforts in eye care.
**Key Responsibilities: **
- Review and accurately abstract required data from patient medical records, focusing on ocular health information
- Enter abstracted data into a large, complex database/registry system with precision and attention to detail
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of all abstracted data
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and research teams to clarify any ambiguities in medical records
- Assist in identifying trends or patterns in the abstracted data that may be relevant to research or quality improvement initiatives
- Participate in regular quality assurance checks to maintain high data integrity standards
- Stay updated on current ocular health terminology, treatments, and best practices in data abstraction
**Qualifications: **
- Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field; advanced degree preferred
- Clinical experience in an optometry or ophthalmology setting is highly desired
- Strong knowledge of ocular medical terminology, anatomy, and common eye conditions
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and data management software
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while working efficiently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- US Citizen
- Able to pass a Government Background Investigation
**Preferred Experience: **
- 2+ years of experience in clinical data abstraction, preferably in an eye care setting
- Familiarity with ocular imaging techniques and interpretation of eye exam results
- Experience with quality improvement initiatives in healthcare
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or similar credential
** Key Competencies: **
- In-depth understanding of ocular health and related medical conditions
- Proficiency in medical coding related to eye care
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively
- Commitment to data quality and accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
