OVERVIEW

Energy Intelligence is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented copy editor with exceptional attention to detail, strong acumen around American English grammar and house style issues, and rigorous oversight of quality control/assurance. Responsibilities include overseeing a three-person copyediting team, working with editors to ensure house style and grammar are applied accurately and consistently across energy-focused news, analysis and datasets, as well as supporting graphics creation and daily publication processes. The ideal candidate will be able to seamlessly handle these tasks at speed and against daily deadlines.

This is a hybrid job that requires two days in the office. Resumes without a cover letter will not be considered.

CORE COMPETENCIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

· Proactive copyediting: Serve as the final gatekeeper and lead editor on grammar and house style issues to ensure professional, error-free deliverables across Energy Intelligence’s suite of products. Demonstrate an ability to problem solve and proactively consider ways to improve standards in quality.

· Attention to detail: Have an eagle eye for spotting errors in grammar, punctuation, house style, syntax and formatting to ensure robust quality.

· Communication and team leadership: High-level verbal and written communication skills for effective team and cross-departmental communication. Mentor other copy editors to maintain consistent quality assurance and lead training to address any lapses.

· Time management: Deliver edited copy and formatted graphics across multiple deadlines without sacrificing quality. Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage multiple demands and help coordinate work of copy editor team members.

· House style: Quickly familiarize with energy lexicon and Energy Intelligence house style. Manage and routinely update Energy Intelligence’s house stylebook.

· Data and graphics: Create, format and publish simple data graphs and tables in Excel and High Charts.

· Images: Source and select relevant images for articles with a creative approach.

 

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

· Undergraduate degree in English, journalism or similar qualification;

· Full mastery of American English grammar and proficiency in AP style;

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

· 3-5 years’ experience in media or digital publishing. Experience in senior or team lead role a plus;

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Familiarity with Teams and PowerPoint a plus;

· Experience managing web-based content workflows;

· Knowledge of business use of social media channels, including Twitter and LinkedIn;

· Knowledge of the energy industry and related terminology a plus.
