The role involves answering telephone, and radio calls, and pager to receive job assignments. The job includes performing minor repairs using tools such as replacing worn gaskets, and pipe nipples, tightening joints, and replacing defective meters and broken water column tubes. The individual is responsible for all boiler room equipment under the supervision of the Stationary Engineer. This includes firing boilers and controlling the generation of a continuous supply of steam for all hospital buildings to meet all hospital requirements. The role requires maintaining a continuous tour of the boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges, ensuring that operations adhere to specific instructions. The individual must adjust valves to control the flow of water and fuel, as well as to modify steam pressure and firing rates as needed. They must adjust equipment controls to correct malfunctions when indicated by observation or in response to signal alarms. All meter gauge and graph readings, along with repair work performed, must be recorded in a logbook. The job also involves periodic testing and treatment of boiler water and maintaining a safe work environment. The individual is expected to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality records. Additionally, they are responsible for ordering engineering supplies, parts, tools, and equipment, and interacting effectively with all levels of personnel. They must also keep maintenance records to meet the reporting requirements of the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School or GED
  • Completion of a program in Trade School
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Journeyman experience operating and maintaining power plants.
  • EPA Certification for Boiler
  • Mechanical skills
  • Communication skills
