Summary/Objective: A Laborer completes entry-level craft labor and provides support to Carpenters as needed.

 

This position will report to a Labor Leadman or Labor Foreman and may have duties and responsibilities across multiple groups within the organization.

 

Essential Functions

A Laborer will be responsible for learning and executing various construction site operational activities.

· Support and adhere to safety standards and initiatives. Participate in Stretch and Flex and attend Toolbox Talks. Identify job activity hazards and complete daily Top 5. Assist with the completion of Job Hazards Analysis (JHA) and pre-task plans, as requested. Adhere to housekeeping standards and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements. Identify safety hazards on the job and work to address them as appropriate; handle the concerns or escalate to Leadman/Foreman.

· Support safety initiatives, including but not limited to: installing and maintaining safety rails, setting up cones and red tape, and assisting with piloting trucks, as requested.

· Support Carpenters, Foremen, and Superintendents as needed. Maintain a clean jobsite, conduct housekeeping duties, clean up debris and recyclables. Bring tools and materials to the crew. Execute project-related tasks. Organize and store tools. Provide support to subcontractors, as requested.

· Complete various logistics tasks, including but not limited to: installing and maintaining site fencing, facilitating dumpster management, and executing stormwater management activities.

· Complete various material handling activities, including but not limited to: installing and removing scaffolding, building forms for concrete and carrying them into place, stacking forms and lumber, unloading deliveries.

· Assist with demolition and dismantling based on project needs.

· Assist with all self-perform concrete tasks, including but not limited to: shoveling concrete, weather protection and associated clean-up.

· Learn and apply proper tool usage for safe operation related to the required tasks.

· Conduct signaling activities to include guiding and directing traffic appropriately, using applicable signage, and leveraging proper hand signals.

· Follow directions and adhere to company procedures. Apply an understanding of construction terminology and industry to execute with excellence. Submit time entry daily. Comprehend and apply instructions and ask questions as needed.

· Actively seek career and professional growth. Attend company and/or industry trainings and offerings. Set personal performance and learning goals during performance reviews. Actively seek professional development, as appropriate.

· Represent the GE Johnson/H.W. Houston brand, ethics, and values. Model desired performance, professionalism, conduct and behaviors. Serve as an example on the jobsite. Foster collaboration and teamwork. Take initiative and responsibility for work quality.

Ability to travel to various jobsites where GE Johnson/H.W. Houston conduct business. Ability to relocate for project assignments.
