Job Description

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading and managing the procurement team, developing purchasing strategies, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring that the company's supply chain needs are met efficiently and cost-effectively. This role requires strategic thinking, strong leadership, and excellent negotiation skills.

Duties and Responsibilities


Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with the company's goals.
  • Forecast procurement needs and manage budget allocation for purchasing activities.

    Team Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the procurement team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

  Supplier Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and implement improvements as needed.

  Negotiation and Contract Management:

  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers.
  • Oversee the drafting, review, and management of contracts to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

  Cost Control and Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the purchasing budget.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or service levels.

  Inventory and Supply Chain Management:

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supply while minimizing excess.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless supply chain operations.

  Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain.

  Market Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new products.
  • Analyze market conditions to make informed purchasing decisions.

  Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost savings.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier information.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated consistency, accuracy, and follow-through.
  • Ability and willingness to work over 40 hours with a “get the job done” mentality.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to work.
  • Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Degree in business administration, procurement, logistics, or related field preferred
  • Previous experience in a purchasing leadership role
  • Proficiency in CRM and inventory management software programs
  • QuickBooks and Fish Bowl knowledge is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google products, especially Excel and Sheets

 

Physical Demands (to include but not limited to)

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, mouse, office equipment, telephones, etc. which requires frequent use of hands and fingers to operate.
  • Sit for long periods of time working at a desk, boardroom table, or at a computer.
  • Reading and analyzing data on computer screens and printed reports, which requires good vision or appropriate corrective measures (glasses/contact lenses).
  • Regular communication via phone, video calls, and in person meetings, which may require clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Walk long distances across shop floor to communicate and gather information as needed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and place items up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and below knees, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.
