Job DescriptionJob Description

As a Safety Specialist at our nitrile glove manufacturing facility, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, health, and environmental compliance of our operations. This position is essential in maintaining a workplace that prioritizes the well-being of our employees while adhering to regulatory standards. Need to have experience with safety surrounding working with Chlorine. Develop, maintain, and manage an EHS programs, permits, procedures, systems and protocols that promote environmental, health and safety of individuals, to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Safety Programs and Compliance:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
    • Coordinate safety training sessions for employees, focusing on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and emergency procedures.
  2. Health and Wellness:

    • Monitor and promote employee health and wellness initiatives, including ergonomic assessments and wellness programs.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to manage occupational health services and ensure compliance with medical surveillance requirements.
  3. Environmental Compliance:

    • Manage environmental compliance programs related to waste management, air emissions, water quality, and hazardous materials.
    • Implement sustainability initiatives to minimize environmental impact and promote resource conservation.
  4. Incident Investigation and Risk Management:

    • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
    • Maintain records of incidents, analyze trends, and develop strategies to reduce risks and improve safety performance.
  5. Emergency Preparedness:

    • Develop and update emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management protocols.
    • Conduct drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and ensure readiness.
  6. Regulatory Liaison:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies regarding EHS matters, ensuring compliance with permits, licenses, and reporting requirements.
    • Stay informed about changes in EHS regulations and industry standards, and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Proven experience in EHS roles within manufacturing environments, preferably in the chemical or rubber industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and other relevant EHS standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, interpret data, and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
  • Certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) is a plus.

Essentials of the job:

  • Exposure to warm temperatures.
  • Climbing (up to 3 flights of stairs), bending, stooping.
  • Full face respirator training.
  • Position is 50-50, half the time in office and half the time on production floor.
