ICAN seeks a highly qualified Finance Director to join our team dedicated to supporting women peacebuilders worldwide in promoting gendered peace and security. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising daily financial operations, handling grant finances, and offering strategic direction in line with our organizational objectives. Working closely with program teams, you will contribute to budget development, variance tracking, and grant management, while also providing essential leadership and support.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure effective internal controls and compliance with donor requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking activities.
  • Provide fiscal oversight of ICAN’s grantmaking program.
  • Maintain ICAN’s general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor cash flow and financial performance to ensure adequate liquidity and adherence to budgetary targets.
  • Conduct periodic financial analysis and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and mitigate financial risks.

Budgeting and Planning

  • Collaborate with program teams to develop annual budgets and forecasts aligned with organizational priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Track budget variances and provide timely analysis to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Support program managers in budget development for grant proposals and project implementation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor guidelines.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal stakeholders, board members, donors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and Forms 990 preparation and ensure compliance with auditing standards and reporting requirements.

Grant Management and Compliance

  • Oversee grant financial management, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, and reporting to donors.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and contractual requirements, including timely submission of financial reports and other documentation to the donors and facilitating project audits.
  • Provide guidance and capacity building to program staff on financial management best practices and donor compliance.

Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor accounting staff.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops to build financial management capacity across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate financial considerations into program planning and implementation.

Qualifications

  • 7 + years of progressively responsible experience in financial management within the nonprofit sector is required, preferably with an NGO whose funding sources include governments (U.S. and/or European) and UN agencies.
  • Accounting and/or MBA degree is required, CPA certificate is preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with grant management and reporting, including compliance with donor regulations.
  • Experience/familiarity with grantmaking processes is preferred.
  • Experience/familiarity with employee benefits administration is preferred.
  • English proficiency and good writing and verbal communication skills are required.
