Junior Utility Designer/Drafter

 

Position: Junior Utility Designer

Pay Range: $18-22 per hour.

Location: Curtis Bay, MD

We are currently seeking a full time Junior Utility Designer to join our AIU Communications team. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Junior Designer is an entry level role responsible for performing critical drafting functions on various utility projects. Primary tasks will consist of compiling data for permit applications, filling out basic permit applications, reading permit maps and scope maps, obtaining right of way information and GIS data, and creating permit drawings. The candidate will also be responsible for base draft of roadways, rights of way, sidewalks, driveways, trees, railroads, etc. Other duties include but are not limited to reading and deciphering Comcast system prints, creating scaled drawings showing proposed OH and UG facilities in correct locations. It is preferred for the candidate to have basic understanding of dimensions and be knowledgeable in Bentley Microstation however training will be provided to the right candidate. Enrollment in a degree or certification program preferred. This position is an office-based role that works along with the entire Project Team to plan and support the completion of assigned construction engineering projects and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines. There is ability for this role to become hybrid. 

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a General Contractor.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Driver’s License and reliable transportation

·       Actively enrolled in certification program (Auto Cad or similar, Design Technology, Engineering Technician, Civil Engineering) or successful completion of program

·       Excellent mathematics, communication and listening skills.

·       Ability to thrive in team environment as well as perform with minimal supervision.

·       Experience with permits and MicroStation highly preferred.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

·       Assist with obtaining relevant field data measurements.

·       Compile and utilize relevant data as needed for permit applications and assist in completing permit applications.

·       Read basic utilities blueprints from customers such as Comcast and Time Warner and permit maps to be able to obtain information.

·       Create accurate and up to date permit drawings as well as base drafts of various roadways and structures, utilizing primarily Microsoft Station

·       Successfully create scaled drawings to reflect proposed underground and overhead facilities.
