Reporting to the CEO, The Controller is responsible for organizing, directing, controlling, summarizing, and interpreting all financial information of the company. Duties for the Controller will include managing accounting records, evaluating and managing risk, ensuring compliance with taxes and regulations, overseeing accounting operations, coordinating auditing processes, and ensuring accuracy of financial information.
Responsibilities
· Prepare monthly financial statements and related summaries, financial reporting for use by management. Advises management of corrective actions that may be needed.
· Develops and reviews processes throughout the company to ensure they are efficient while incorporating adequate internal controls.
· Supervises the Accounting Department. Hires, supervises and monitors staff performance and develops staff’s skills.
· Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of cash management, accounts payable, cash disbursements, inventories, general accounting, cost accounting, and operations, etc.
· Conduct month end close.
· Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
· Lead the development and improvement of processes and procedures to establish and reinforce internal controls for accurate financial statement reporting.
· Coordinate all audit activity, including annual financial audits.
· Manage timely filing of all required tax returns and other statutory filings.
· Implement, and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. Continue to improve upon current internal controls, policies and infrastructure to scale with the business.
· Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals. Lead annual Budget & Business Planning with CEO, Operations Director and GM’s.
- Lead on monthly management account meetings with site GM’s, which include revenue/cost improvements to any variance analysis. This to be conveyed back with improvement strategies to Operations Director and CEO.
- Create proforma P&L and B/S for new potential new site developments, to include pre-opening and working cashflow needs. Provide accountability and regular review of project B/S and Pre-Opening P&L against budgets.
EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
· Certified Public Accountant preferred
· Proficiency in accounting software, Sage Intacct and R365, Toast, Shopify preferred
· Experience in restaurant hospitality a plus
Scope Additions:
· Lead regular CAPEX Planning & Budgeting w/ CEO, Operations Director, and GMs
· Review and provide accountability for labor costs and productivity with GMs and Operations Director utilizing actionable metrics, KPIs, etc.
· Work with HR, CEO, and Operations Director to bring financial perspective on Labor Strategy, including competitive rate analysis, labor cost risk mitigation, benefits, and workers comp costs.
· Contribute financial context and perspective to Revenue Management/Sales Strategy, including rate/price positioning, market, economic conditions, new/developing channels, etc.
· Support CEO and Operations Director with financial goal planning and communication with internal and external stakeholders
· Support GJOPS P&L management with Operations Director
· Provide financial perspective, context, and analysis to decision-making processes such as ROI, cost/benefit, etc.
· Support and grow the financial acumen of managers; develop strong financial accountability and stewardship within the company.
· Provides and/or supports communication to internal and external stakeholders regarding financials, policies, and other key business information.
· Works with Business Development Director (Villi) and GMs to ensure new business ventures are appropriately set up with business compliance, applicable accounting practices, and systems.
· Works with GMs and Operations Director to ensure financial integrations are active and set up to provide accurate financial transaction reporting to the accounting system and to minimize the number of manual entries needed.
· Communicates and advises CEO, Operations Director, HR director, and other key stakeholders of new, existing, and/or evolving financial/operating issues.
