*As a residential support agency– the individuals served may become Covid positive. Kokua provides all required PPE during times of activation for our employees' protection.

You will learn to encourage, support and empower individuals with daily tasks like getting out of bed, which can be a hurdle sometimes, up to being out in the community, going to a party and dancing, or working on a personal goal.

We are looking for Direct Support Professionals and CNAs to support our clients to live full and meaningful lives. As a DSP, you will follow specific care plans pertaining to the individual, assist with personal care needs, and encourage meaningful interactions between clients and the community.
We are looking for individuals that are mindful of our clients' abilities while assisting the where needed in an empathetic manner that encourages independence. Our Ideal candidates are reliable, accountable, compassionate, patient, respectful, and can work cooperatively with others toward a common goal.
Qualifications:
*Provided (and paid) training: CPR/First Aid/AED training, Food Safety Certification & other state required certifications.
*Must be at least 18 years old *High school diploma or equivalent *Pass an FBI background check * Valid driver’s license *
*Comfortable working independently and can consistently make good judgements that ensure the health and safety of clients *Flexible with a keen ability to handle stress well *A friendly disposition with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude *Enjoy working with developmentally disabled individuals to improve their quality of life *Can quickly manage stressful situations responsibly and effectively *Strong interpersonal skills *Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods and frequently perform physically demanding tasks (e.g. lifting 35 lbs., twisting and bending, hoyer, wheelchair tie- downs, repositioning and personal care/showering needs)
Direct Support Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain an environment that ensure clients health and safety
- Advance clients' decision-making, productivity and participation in a range of activities that nurtures their needs, self-expression and goals
- Promote independence in daily activities and facilitate clients' inclusion in their community
- Assist with and work to strengthen clients' daily living needs including but not limited to nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication and socialization skills
- Deliver individualized training, encouragement and care in compliance with healthcare professional’s instructions
Expectation and duties:
- Work cooperatively within your team (e.g. show up to all scheduled shifts on time, be willing to fill-in for others when possible, support the success of team-members through mentoring, be open to feedback about your own performance, resolve issues professionally and refrain from gossip, complete as many tasks as possible during your shift, attend all mandatory team meetings and participate in Kokua’s yearly performance evaluation)
- Proficient understanding of all care plans, protocols and procedures for the clients in your care
- Uphold Kokua’s Code of Ethics
- Maintain compliance with all required trainings and certifications
- Uphold your mandatory reporting responsibility
- Be knowledgeable of all Kokua policies and procedures
- Thoroughly and professionally complete required documentation per WAC and Kokua policy
- Follow the safety training guidelines to assure a safe workplace environment
- Use professional conduct in representing clients and the agency in the wider community
- Ability to move from site to site during shift
