The Lead Trailer Mechanic will oversee the maintenance, repair, and inspection of a fleet of trailers, ensuring all work is performed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with safety standards. This role involves supervising a team of mechanics, managing daily operations, and performing repairs. While no prior experience with trailers is necessary, candidates must demonstrate strong leadership abilities and be bilingual in Spanish.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Leadership:

    • Lead and manage a team of trailer mechanics.
    • Provide training and mentorship to team members on repair techniques, safety procedures, and use of diagnostic tools.
    • Delegate tasks and monitor the progress of work to ensure timely completion.

  2. Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform and oversee complex repairs and maintenance tasks on trailer systems, including brakes, electrical systems, suspension, and structural components.
    • Conduct thorough diagnostics to identify mechanical issues using appropriate tools and equipment.

  3. Quality Control:

    • Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks meet industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
    • Conduct final inspections on completed work to verify the quality and safety of repairs.
    • Address and resolve any quality issues or discrepancies.

  4. Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used, labor hours, and issues encountered.
    • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for the maintenance shop.

  5. Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
    • Promote a culture of safety within the team.

  6. Customer Service:

    • Communicate with internal and external customers regarding the status of repairs, and any additional work needed.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by providing reliable and timely service.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: knowledge of mechanical tools and systems.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in performing maintenance tasks and inspections.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with team members, management, and customers.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work efficiently.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in mechanics preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanic, with progressive responsibility.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily works outdoors.
  • May require occasional travel to off-site locations for repairs or inspections.
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment and work in various physical positions, including standing, crouching, and bending.
