Date Posted:2024-05-14Country:United States of AmericaLocation:HCA21: Aerostructures - Chula Vista 850 Lagoon Blvd, Chula Vista, CA, 91910 USAPosition Role Type:OnsiteCollins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer, Test & Certification to create 2D/3D designs that are representative of production interfaces of the nacelle system. The designs will be used for safety testing including fire, lightning and structural (fatigue, static, endurance). You will work closely with production design, Subject Matter Experts (SME), lab engineers, technicians, and customers. You will work in tandem with the manufacturing team as the concepts are developed and parts are fabricated in a fast-paced life cycle. In addition, you will collaborate with other domestic and international team members on commercial and some military applications.
The position is working Onsite at our Chula Vista CA facility.

What You Will Do
Create 3D models using requirement inputs, working closely with stakeholders; proficient skill level required
Create 2D drawings of test models to be used for manufacturing; proficient skill level required
Ensure detailed understanding of design requirements, parts representation, and manufacturability of each assigned design project
Write and/or check build assembly planning
Maintain configuration management of parts within assigned test designs
Directly support lab staff, including engineers and technicians, throughout the build process
Collaborate with cross-functional team when complex problems arise
Work closely with the associated project engineer to fulfill test requirements
Articulately Communicate and present design reviews to stakeholders and senior level leadership
Travel up to 5% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
Perform other duties as required

Qualifications You Must Have
Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
Production mechanical design experience
Proficient with 2D/3D modeling software
MS Office experience: Excel

Qualifications We Prefer
Experience with nacelle materials: metallics, composites, seals, blankets
Test Design experience
Production Design experience
Certification process experience
Fabrication / testing experience of nacelle components (Fire, Lightning, Structural and/or Vibration)
Experience using CATIA for 3D/2D design activities desired
Knowledge of M&P specifications
Experience with ENOVIA
Experience with Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, ACE and/or CORE
Excel experience: creating spreadsheets, macros, template forms
