Position Overview
Objective:
Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Process Controls, you will take the lead in developing and executing plans for control systems at Power Plants and Chilling Stations. This includes managing SCADA energy systems, protection relays, and providing technical oversight for these systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor the Process Controls team, set performance expectations, conduct annual appraisals, and report any issues to the Assistant Director. Serve as a backup for the Assistant Director as needed.
- Evaluate and suggest improvements for utility system controls, such as those for substations, electrical distribution, and generation systems. Provide technical oversight to ensure optimal system performance and dispatch.
- Maintain and manage Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications, and SCADA controls across power plants and chilling stations. Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and recommend or implement modifications and upgrades.
- Advise on technological advancements to enhance operational processes. Uphold and support the utility’s mission, policies, and procedures.
- Adhere to safety policies, complete required safety training, and report any safety hazards. Follow safety protocols, use personal protective equipment, and report any incidents. Embrace Utilities and Energy Management’s core values: Safety, Respect, Integrity, Reliability, Teamwork, and Excellence. Work effectively both remotely and on site.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, adhering to industry standards and quality expectations. Attend staff meetings, safety training, and operational and maintenance training courses. Obtain necessary training certification within 18 months.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 10 years of equivalent experience in designing, implementing, and interfacing real-time control systems, including computers, networking, PLCs, and DCS. Experience in a higher education environment is required.
- Proficiency with Rockwell (RSView, RSLogix), Emerson (Ovation), and GE Software (GE-Cimplicity, Power Management Control System). Experience with SCADA, power management equipment, SEL relays, and metering is required.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, ControlNet, FieldBus, and OPC is essential.
- Provide a current three-year driving record from your state of residence. Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience with gas and steam turbines, industrial chillers, and related equipment. Experience in power plant administration, supervision, and management is preferred.
Driving Requirements:
- A Class "C" operator's driver's license is required. The selected candidate must provide a current three-year driving record. If not a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of relocation.
