Purpose:

The Director, Compensation is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and executing all Floor & Decor compensation programs including equity and relocation. This involves researching and understanding the current and upcoming competitive markets for associate pay.  The Director, Compensation must find ways to ensure that pay rates are fair, equitable and market competitive to retain and recruit associates. The Director, Compensation must be able to provide solutions and insights and make sound, impactful business decisions and apply judgment based on data, industry knowledge, business intelligence, research and analysis. 

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in a related field, such as human resources, economics, or finance
  • 10+ years’ experience in compensation
  • Demonstrated team leadership including management of direct reports
  • Experience in making high-level decisions and driving execution
  • Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnosis problems and create solutions to solve complex issues. Must be able to collect, weigh, and analyze data based on a multitude of factors to determine the best compensation plan for the company
  • Solid working knowledge of math and statistics to assist in calculating compensation programs and design elements
  • Must be able to apply considerable independent judgment and discretion to make informed business decisions as needed in relation to compensation, based on quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ability to research/analyze data, identify problems/deficiencies, and determine and make recommendations for corrective action
  • Proven ability to manage positive business partnerships and perform in complex cross-functional environment. Establishes and maintains two-way dialog with others on work and results
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Office, particularly excel
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have ability to write reports and correspondence aimed at an executive-level audience

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, develop and evolve the Corporate and field pay scales, structures, and bonus programs
  • Lead the execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual bonus and merit increase processes
  • Partner with HR, Legal, Finance, Accounting and Systems teams on a variety of projects including program design, analysis, budgeting, and implementation of new compensation programs
  • Oversee the administration of equity bonus and ESPP programs
  • Lead the relocation function ensuring a competitive relocation benefit that is effectively managed to policy
  • Evaluate all jobs against internal and external market data, ensuring pay practices are competitive against relevant benchmarks and compliant with all federal and state requirements (i.e. FLSA, minimum wage, overtime regulations, etc.)
  • Work with managers to develop pay strategies with existing associates that will assist with retention and promotion
  • Work closely with the Talent Acquisition team to benchmark new positions and develop competitive total cash packages
  • Regularly provide analysis to assess effectiveness and quality of compensation plans and programs and make decisions based on analysis. Generate reports, analyze data, summarize and present results as needed and ensure integrity of data and reporting methodologies
  • Evolve recognition and incentive compensation programs at Floor & Decor
  • Create educational/informational materials to communicate compensation plans, policies and procedures for managers, salaried associates, and hourly associates
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for compensation related items with other functional areas including Benefits, HRIS, Finance, and Legal

Working Conditions (travel & environment)

  • 10% travel required including air and car travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee might be occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.
