I am looking for a veterinary assistant who is reliable, honest, enjoys talking with clients, and is up for learning new ways of doing things. House calls often require creativity Clients are primarily retirement age. The patients are often geriatric, or they may have behavior problems which make it difficult for them to go into a clinic. A calm demeanor goes a long way when handling them. We use "fear free" techniques whenever possible. We spend more time than a typical vet visit in a clinic. The assistant can help prep and pack and load so that we can be at our first appointment at 1pm. (we usually eat our lunch as we work) Appointments are scheduled throughout the afternoon, and then we return to my home office to prepare prescriptions. You are welcome to ride with me or drive your own car to appointments. Most of our appointments are within Fearrington Village, although we do sometimes travel further into Chatham or Chapel Hill. We usually wrap up in time for you to drop off prescriptions on your way home, between 5 and 6pm.

Sometimes we have a pre-vet student helping us, and sometimes it will be just the two of us. There are also some visits which can be performed by the assistants by themselves (toenail trims, anal glands, cytopoint injections, SQ fluids, etc)

Duties will include admin work - Quickbooks, Avimark, scheduling appointments, talking to new clients on the phone, and calling in prescriptions, so some kind of administrative or veterinary receptionist experience is helpful.

Salary is $20-$30/hr depending on experience and abilities.

We will be making our house calls on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons.  I am currently looking for someone who could work three days a week.
