The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients. 


The Center has been fighting poverty in Lincoln, Nebraska since 2003. We are the Food Bank of Lincoln's largest partner, distributing food to more than 5,400 low-income families. We are also home to Lincoln's first Diaper Bank, established to meet the growing need for diapers in our community. Education is the key to helping low-income individuals obtain economic independence. As such, the Center developed educational and training programs to help people obtain employment with a living wage.


We are currently looking for a Communications and Digital Marketing Specialist. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position. 


The Communications and Digital Marketing Specialist will convey our social mission, vision, and values clearly and consistently. In part, they will do so by overseeing the organization's visual identity system (VIS) and ensuring consistency across all internal and external communication channels and digital marketing platforms. This role involves creating, distributing, managing, and amplifying content for various platforms and to diverse audiences, including the annual report, newsletters, press releases, social media outlets, the website, special events, fundraising events, and donor appeals. Leveraging online platforms to promote our brand and services is a pivotal function of the position. They will manage media relations and proactively seek opportunities to promote the Center for People, both from a local and national purview. Additionally, the Communications and Digital Marketing Specialist will be responsible for cultivating collaborative relationships with journalists, influencers, community stakeholders, and public officials.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conceptualize, plan, and execute a communications and digital strategy to deepen brand position and community awareness

• Write, edit, and produce engaging and relevant content for various channels; including, but not limited to – website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and other marketing materials

• Keep apprised of industry trends, keywords, and audience preferences to produce high-quality marketing content that resonates with target audiences, drives website traffic, and enhances brand authority

• Use analytics tools to track metrics such as website traffic, engagement metrics, and ROI, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous optimization of marketing strategies

• Collaborate with team members to generate content ideas that align with organizational goals, messaging, and brand standards

• Ensure content is compelling, accurate, and tailored to target audiences

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage and raise awareness of the organization's mission and initiatives

• Draft press releases, media pitches, and other materials to announce news, events, and campaigns

• Coordinate media interviews and prepare spokespeople with key messaging and talking points. When applicable, serve as spokesperson for the agency

• Facilitate internal communications to ensure staff members are informed about organizational updates, events, and achievements

• Provide communications and brand identity support for special events, appeals, and fundraisers, including developing promotional materials, drafting event announcements, and supporting social media coverage. Events include but are not limited to, the People's Parking Lot Party, the Fall Food Festival, the Toyland Event, and Give to Lincoln Day

• Participate in special events as a brand ambassador and to chronicle the event

• Maintain the organization's visual identity system, ensuring consistency across all communication channels

• Monitor and evaluate brand performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement

• Keep current on branding trends to support visibility and brand position

• Support strategic leadership in response to affirming organizational goals

• Operate following all contracts, government regulations, and Center for People policies and procedures

• Exhibit high integrity and ability to set and maintain ethical professional boundaries

• Maintain a flexible work schedule to ensure organizational needs are being met, including occasional evening and weekend support

• Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES


• Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing

• Understanding of the digital landscape

• Analytical and critical thinking skills

• Ability to work autonomously, and In collaboration with others

• Strong project management and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and Canva in a Windows environment (Mac platform may be used in future)

• Knowledge of common email programs, website platforms, messaging programs, cloud services, and apps

• Willingness and ability to learn new software programs

• Ability to receive constructive feedback regarding content creation and adjust accordingly

• Ability to take personal accountability for fulfilling job responsibilities, meeting deadlines, and taking initiative and ownership of personal performance

• Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders • Ability to promote teamwork and maintain positive working relationships with all employees and departments

• Skilled at possessing professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment


DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


Post-secondary education in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field preferred OR a minimum of 4 years of work experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field. Knowledge of AP Style Guide. Multilingual is a plus.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


● Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent required

● Valid Nebraska driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance

● Must be legally authorized to work inside the United States
