This role is essential in ensuring that our volunteers are engaged, well trained, and feel valued, enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our shelter and making a greater impact on our animal residence.

General Responsibilities and Position Functions:

·         Recruit volunteers according to shelter needs/goals, solicit volunteers with special skills and abilities based on staff needs for projects

·         Manages the Activities Coordinator

·         Prioritize working with all departments to incorporate volunteers as need for strategic direction

·         Oversee orientation/training/placement of volunteer workforce

·         Friends group liaison: attends meetings; schedules rooms; coordinates volunteers, staff, and resources to support Friends events

·         Oversees all volunteers and is the primary volunteer contact/communication/engagement

·         Manage volunteer software package and scheduling

·         Plan and facilitate volunteer appreciation events

·         Formulate plan to create revenue stream for department

·         Communicate with all volunteers via email, phone, newsletter

·         Create and provide educational opportunities, recognitions and gatherings

·         Communicate budgeting needs and oversees supply orders within budget guidelines

·         Encourage exceptional customer interface with clients, volunteers and staff

·         Motivate team and direct workflow within departments daily

·         Handle challenging conflicts or concerns with volunteers and staff, dismiss volunteers if needed

·         Utilize corporate volunteers working with Community Engagement Coordinator

·         Coordinate volunteer needs to complete projects at the SCA by recruiting, scheduling and hosting individuals and groups

·         Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·          Requires a college degree with work experience in a like position

·          Supervisory or management experience required

·          Ability to work with diverse groups of people 

·          Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team

·          Requires the ability to work under pressure and noisy conditions

·          Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

·          Proficient use of computer, email, and the internet and shelter specific software required

·          Must be able to make decisions for all animals while considering shelter and public safety required

·          Physical ability to lift and carry animals and supplies, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods is required

·          Excellent communication (written/verbal and nonverbal) and interpersonal skills are required.

·          Animal handling experience with cats, dogs and other domestics

·          Ability to pass criminal background check 

·          Carries personal vehicle insurance
