Job Overview: The Heavy Civil Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale heavy civil construction projects, including highways, roadways, paving, grading, and excavation. This role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Scheduling:
  • Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings to align all stakeholders on project goals and expectations.
  • Monitor and update project schedules, ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Team Leadership and Management:
  • Manage and mentor a team of project engineers, site supervisors, and field staff.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment, promoting professional development and growth.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among project team members, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
  • Monitor project financial performance, identifying and addressing cost overruns and financial risks.
  • Approve project expenditures and manage subcontractor payments.
  • Quality Control and Compliance:
  • Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure high standards of workmanship.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Risk Management and Problem Resolution:
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure contingency plans are in place for unforeseen events or circumstances.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Provide regular project updates and progress reports to clients and senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management within the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale heavy civil projects, including highways, roadways, paving, grading, and excavation.
  • Experience in a leadership role with responsibility for managing teams and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and budgeting skills.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, Primavera).
